?'s on performance of shims for Muni

Hi,

I am considering shimming a Miyata seat post into a 25.4 ID seat tube. Does anyone see any problems in doing this for Muni?

I am wondering if this will create extra stress on the seat tube below the shims.

Or do I just cough up the extra cash and get a seat post that fits with a railed seat adapter?

I am 5’9" and @160 lbs…

Thanks,

Trying to work the maze.

cough it up,might as well.as long as its a good shim(ya know not a pop can, they work good).shims can get annoying when they get old and scared though.

One problem with the standard Miyata post is that they are rather soft compared to quality bicycle seatposts. The Miyata posts can deform when clamped real hard. Once they deform you will never be able to keep the seat from twisting after a UPD.

Best bet for a muni is to use a better seatpost than the Miyata post.

I had no probs with it for a coupla years, till I got an alloy post., the
tough bit was gettingthe post OUT of the shim when I wanted to.
