Rotating Crank

Can someone please tell me how to properly rotate the crank (tire- to get even
wear) on a Semcycle. I got the cap and the nut undone, but can’t seem to remove
the crank. I’m not sure if it’s supposed to just pop off or what. I don’t want
to do any damage to it, so I didn’t force it too much.

Thanks for the info. It sounds as if it easier to just turn the tire, huh?

You will need a crank remover tool available at just about any bike store. You
won’t be able to get the crank off any other way (actually, riding it with the
nut off will probably loosen it, but you don’t want to do that). Having a crank
removal tool is a ‘good thing’.

Yes, but be careful.

Deflate the tube completely.

It is a good idea to undo one entire side of the tire, rotate it, then put that
side back in. You may even need to undo both sides of the tire.

It is very important not to bunch up the tube in the process. A bunched tube
will pop after you re-inflate it… but not necessarily right away!

I have rotated uni tires this way and popped a tube only once… the first time!
That is why I say to be careful!

You need a crank puller. It is a gadget that hooks into the crank’s threads,
then you turn a bolt to pull the crank. I bought mine from Tom Miller, but I
assume they are available at bike shops.

BTW, when you put the crank back on, don’t bang on the bare crank with a hammer,
or you may compress the threads. Put a piece of metal or wood over the crank arm
and bang that.

Also, BTW, you can always just pull the tire off of the wheel, rotate it, and
put the tire back on.
