Road tire for Muni rim - suggestions please

Excuse the general nature of the topic title
But I did it on purpose so this topic can be re-used by people having the same question, for their specific set-up.

I’m currently riding a 27.5” Qu-Ax Muni and I’m considering getting a more road-friendly tire.
For off-road I have just upgraded the stock 2.4” Maxxis High Roller II for a 3” Specialized Ground Control for a smoother ride.
But at times I like to ride on-road and make some more distance and for this I’d like a narrower tire with lower rolling resistance.

Online I find lots of 650B road tires (which are 27.5”) but I’m not sure about the narrower tires being compatible with the wide Qu-Ax Muni rim.
Has anyone got some experience / recommendations for a good road tire on this rim?
Could I go as low as 2” for instance a Schwalbe Big Ben 27.5 x 2.00?
Or even lower?

I know that for dedicated road riding a 32 or 36 unicycle is best but at this moment I’m not into buying another unicycle.
But another tire (or possibly a wheel set, dedicated for road riding) I can consider.

I use a 3.8" Veetire speedster on my 26" geared Huni-rex, it is a road only tire in a pothole dampener width

I use a Continental Double Fighter II, 27.5 x 2.00, on the same unicycle.

That seems huge for road riding. Isn’t that a lot of tire / weight for road riding?

The Continental Double Fighter rolls much easier and is more agile.

In my experience a road tire that is at least as wide as the outer dimension of the rim works without issue.

As long as your rim isn’t wider than 50mm a 2" tire should work fine.

Just be careful around curbs etc as wide mountain rims will increase your risk of pinch-flats with road tires as they result in less vertical sidewall than an appropriately skinny road rim.

I think you should at least consider plus sized road tyres. Yes they weigh more and this means that acceleration and hills can take a hit but on flatter surfaces or downhill, I feel that the weight can work in your favour. They have a certain momentum that evens out your speed, particularly when you ride over imperfections on the road and this (for me at least) makes them a good choice. In addition, having a wide tyre gives another advantage, they increase the diameter (often by a whole wheel size) and thus you travel more per revolution. I often use a 26x3.0/76-559 Innova “City Tire” (Code: IA-2236) for road riding and I love it. It is faster than smaller/lighter tyres I have tried over the course of my regular commute, which is certainly not flat.

Regarding the wheel diameter increase, consider this picture of my 26”er running another (only fractionally smaller) plus size road tyre (a Duro “Beach Bum” 26x3.0/70-559), next to my 28x1½/40-635 wheeled Pashley unicycle (with a Schwalbe “Marathon”). You will note the total diameter is almost the same.

Oh and of course, remember that if you are using a unicycle that was intended for Muni as a road machine, consider your crank length. You will almost certainly want shorter ones for road use. Personally I love the Nimbus VCX+, 3-holed cranks. For road riding in the non-snowy months (and even in light snow), I have them in the 100mm position.

I’m currently running 110-136 cranks on the 27.5" but have never gone below 136 mm on this size. (On the 24" I run 125-145 cranks).

Once I have a road tire (and gotten used to it) I’ll try to work my way down on crank length.
