Rim for 26"

Hi unifreaks,

which rim’s are you using for your 26" mountain-unicycle?
In the downhill-section are so many producer’s of rim’s, but if you have no possibility to test one of them, it is very bad to choose one… maybe some of you can me say which rim’s are good for hard municycling mixed with trials.
thank you for help.

greetings
-felix

apparently the Alex DX32 is a strong-enough-at-a-good-value-rim. It comes in 24 and 26. Going on my MTB experience, a Mavic 521 rim would be my next 26"r. If you’re not into rim brakes, the 321 is the same with no braking surface…but why sacrifice the braking surface (just in case)

You can check out review here

Generally speaking, these nutjobs are alot harder on rims than uniers.

stop calling us unifreaks, it make you sound like you think you are not one, and it hurts my feelings. sniff

gosh…
dan

laugh ok, I never ever would use the word unifreaks
But I don’t know any other good description…in germany I would say “Hi Leute”.

on babelfish:
Hi Leute=Rear people
[german to english]

richard.

or:

“Hi Leute” = “hi people” …if I translate this with my own words

Greetings from Germany

Actually, I’m quite fond of unifreaks. I would stick with it if I were you, Felix. Eespecially if it illicits some controversy.

@harper: …really a very difficult sentence for someone who isn’t an all day-english-speaker…

Re: Rim for 26"

Answering the original question, Ill try. I used to use a Sun Mammoth,
with a Intense 2.7 tire. It was not quite as wide as i would have liked for
the tire, for it was too easy to fold over. but it was very strong, I took
Many a 2 foot drop with very bad technique, and It stayed straight, didn’t even
have to True it once. It would also be a good candidate for Brakes because it
had a very large brake track.
One of the people here in TCUC uses an Alex DX32 26" and he likes it very
much. He also used the 19" Alex and hasn’t had a problem with either one. it
has a good brake track and is significantly wider than the Mammoth, enough that
the Intense 2.7 doesn’t fold more than it should.
Sun also makes at least 3 other MTB rims (Rhyno, RyhnoLite, Double Wide)
that I know of, and the rhynos are not meant for heavy downhill use (I think
that’s true?). The 26" double wide (which I have never tried) Is as far as I
can tell A very strong rim. all i can say is the 24" version is pretty strong,
so I would assume the 26" is too.
Those are all the rims that i have any experience with, so i will stop
there. good luck finding a good rim.

Unifreaks,
Of all the riders we know the best at taco’ing 26"rs is Kris.

Kris, of all the 26" rims you’ve taco’d which ones taco’d easiest and which ones lasted, say, a little longer?

@ Max

Thank you for the long version of your experience with rims, 26". Now I have new ideas for buying one for my unicycle. Next week I’ll go to my favourite bike-shop…and order (!)

thanks

Re: Rim for 26"

Hey there,
I use and have always used with the exception of my cheap first unicycle, a
26" Sun Doublewide (I think they now call it the doubletrack or
something…) with a 2.6 Gazz. I like the setup alot and it’s been good to
me, now all I need is a new hub and cranks, profile here I come!
