riding with the saddle very low for trials

I recently lowered my saddle…like a ton so I can tuck more SI and the saddle is easier to move in and out of SI and SIF.

however after a couple hours of riding my knees kill me. Its not uncomfortable riding while sitting or anything though so i’d like to continue so I can hop higher.

my question is: Will I eventually get used to riding with the saddle so low so it won’t kill my knees as much? Or is riding with the saddle too low actually harming my knees?

am I just going to have to stand while riding all the time when the saddle is too low? I’d really like to keep it low because it has actually greatly increased my hop height both si and sif

What’s hard on your knees is standing up, or semi-standing, while riding. If you sit down all the way it takes the strain off, but the lower your seat, the harder it may be to do that much. Basically, riding while standing up is tiring, but riding while crouched down partway is even more tiring.

BMX riders figure it out somehow, but they have handlebars they might be able to put some weight on too…

well as long as it’s not damaging my knees or anything

I have never had any problems with hitting my knees with a low seat…
but I don’t figure how you increased your highjump skills. I prefer a very high seat for SIF trials, cause you’ll have so much more control of the uni, and I think it’s easier to tuck…
but I think you should raise the seat about an inch, cause then it’s still low and you won’t hit your knees…

oh nononono it’s not from hitting my knees, I was just wondering if riding in the weird crouched position was damaging me.

and my seat for my 20" was absolute max…Like my legs fully extended when the pedal was down. I had to buy a 500mm seatpost cause i’m 6’2 and have like unproportionally long legs. When it was that high for sif it was like a HUGE hassal to go between si and sif. With it low…it still works fine for sif and now its easier to switch.
