My brother and I are working to build a couple of high stress resistant
muni’s (both of us are ‘large boned’).
We are looking at a Suzue 48-hole High-Flange Cotterless Hub and Axle as
this would be compatible with a Sun double width rim (with a triple wall),
plus an IRC Kujo Down Hill 3" tyre.
This combination should just about be indestructible as the rim and the
number of spokes should allow some reasonable drops or jumps.
What we don’t know yet is which bearings and housings would work.
Looking forward to some words of wisdom from one of you out there who has
‘been there and done that’.
I bought some United main cap bearing holders for my Munis. They don’t
have the precisin fit that some of the high end frames come with, but
they’re lighter and they’re pre-made. They’re plenty strong as there’s
next to no bending moment at the end of the fork legs. It was $16 to get
enough for one unicycle.
