I’m thinkin’ about a new wheel for my smaller unicycle. It was a cheap thing, and given my new found interest in bouncing around I don’t know how long the wheel is going to hold out; plus I’d like a bigger tyre anyway.
I’m looking at the wheels on unicycle.uk.com , but there’s not much to see… no pictures! So… where can I have a sneak peek at some of the options?
I think I’m after a 2.5" or thereabouts tyre - I don’t know exactly how big a tyre will fit between the forks and beneath the crown which is quite low. But there seems to be loads of space around my current 2" tyre, so I’m thinking of something a bit bigger.
Does anyone know what these wheels actually look like?
When you say smaller unicycle, what size are you talking about exactly? My idea of small is a 20", where a 26" wheel could be considered small by some Coker heads.
What kind of riding are you looking to do on this, and what frame do you have currently.
Sorry, should have said… it’s a 20" wheel; “smaller” compared to my 24" muni…
It was my first uni, so it’s pretty much nameless… a normal taiwanese frame and wheel to go. It started off with a 1.75" tyre, which wore out so I replaced it with a 2" - but after seeing Adam’s larger tyre (can’t remember how thick, but a lot chunkier than mine) I want more!
This is mainly for bouncing around on; steps, walls, the like…
From the sounds of things you might want to look into a trials unicycle to play around on. I don’t think your frame will fit a 2.5" tire that the Monty is. You might want to setup a nice Monty rim/Monty tire or Alex32/Monty tire on a 20" Nimbus II frame.

for boingy stuff on a 20" wheel you want an onza or monty wheel with a
20"x2.5", or at least that seems to be what everyone has on their trials
unis. I’m not sure if anyone else makes such fat tyres for 20" wheels.
If you got the unicycle from roger he might know if the frame size would fit
the onza wheel + tyre combination, although if you’re going to be spending
£100 on a wheel, you could buy a new frame for another £20-£30 if that wheel
wouldn’t fit.

Keep jumping about like Adam and friends, and you
will soon need to replace the rest of that uni too. Might
as well get it over with. Hope this helps ;-).

It’s not a unicycle, it’s a wheel and a frame. You could always get rid of
the old 20" frame and wheel, maybe sell it to the university juggling club
or something and then replace it with a nice new 20" wheel and a new frame.
Depending on your frame you may be able to fit an onza wheel + tyre in, Onza
tyre is I think slightly smaller than a monty tyre. You might be able to
find a normal 20"x2.something tyre that is wider than yours but I don’t know
what that’d be, most people ride monty/onzas because they’re so lovely and
fat.
Your best bet is to come to the british muni weekend and bring your 20" or
meet up with Leo or someone else with a monty to see if the wheel from
theirs would fit in it.

you should hear the noises my pashley makes at the moment. creakety creakety
creak. Although I’ve bottomed out the tyre a few times and the rim is still
true. I don’t dare do any of the real crank breaking unicycle destroying
moves yet though cos I’m too worried about breaking me.
I was asked by a reporter recently how many unicycles personally I have and
did a quick count and had to announce 14. Unfortunately Claire was
listening and I then got an earful because I was not meant to get any more.
(it had crept up from 11 only 6 months ago)

and to think I got told off for my 3 and a halfth unicycle.
pah. I really want a trials unicycle but I haven’t got room for one, we’ve
already got a cupboard full of unicycles and a unicycle living under the bar
in the living room.

No! Keep with the foreplay. Reminds me of when I was a student
and agonised for days over a book I wanted to buy.
On the other hand, take the two-wheeler I foolishly ordered from
Dave Mariner. I agonised over this for all of three milliseconds.
Sometimes you need new toys. No question.

PS: I bought the book in the end: “The Puzzling World of Polyhedral
Dissections” - great stuff, until I left it in a pub. And now you can’t get
a copy anywhere for love nor money <grr>.
