MERCY, I never said I wanted rep, I said I was NO LONGER BEGGING so I wouldn’t get more NEGATIVE REP.
Well, I am human and could make a post that deserves negative rep sometime… so don’t worry about giving me negative rep, but of course only do it if the post warrants, just like you would for anyone else.
Amen, Lord Gilby. Amen.
i dropped 8 rep pts. kinda funny. people just always gotta break me down. theyre all JEALOUS!
people dropped me by 5 rep points…now I’m done to 37 ): heh, just kiddin, thats still a lot, thanks doods!
I’m bummed out because someone left me negative feedback, er, gave me negative reputation… for this. No explanation (as if my crime were self-evident).
Bruce found that old, old thread and joked that it almost slipped off page one. I said that BTM pushed it off (referring to all his controversial threads that he starts). I said that I remembered unisteve (that’s a good thing). And I noted that he posted recently (showing that I actually noticed that unisteve returned – another good thing, as in “look, unisteve is back…”).
I’m not whining about injustice. I’m just plain old confused. Out of curiosity, what was wrong with my post? How could it have been misread?
(my only other negative is when I called Miss Ayelery a bad word – I deserved the negative rep, but I don’t regret doing it).
Do you get bent when some yahoo on the side of the road yells “you suck” while you ride by on your you-knee-sickle? I’m sure by now you’ve learned not to taunt the barking dogs. As I posted earlier, the points system is in its infancy and everything will work out over time. Continue to post with your usual vivacity, vim and vigor and your point holdings will grow, like a large-cap mutual fund… there may be some dips here and there but over time you’ll come out on top!
Quiet disdain or quiet laughter at their sorry, pathetic state is often the safest strategic maneuver (in other words, shut up and do nothing).
Thanks, that’s a cool analogy (although I’m not sure I agree with your investment strategy). But actually, I don’t really care that much about my reputation points. Many of the people here will know me – and they will have their opinion of me one way or the other, independent of points. I was just curious how such a short and innocuous post could possibly have offended somebody. It puzzled me and I thought that maybe somebody could shed some light.
Oh, and please don’t compliment me. It’s too weird coming from you.
Watch out or we’ll get Billy to say something nice to you.
Whew! I’m safe there.
Billy is never going to say anything nice about me since I voted for Bush and shop at Wal*Mart.
Actually, Billy is always brimming over with syrupy niceness. It’s insidious because he uses that tone as he deliberately pushes my buttons. His niceness drives me nuts!
Now to get him to agree with me… that would be something.
One thing I’ve noticed is that more than 75% of the rep votes I’ve received have been for posts in Just Conversation and the vast majority of those have been for fluff threads like this one. Only two rep votes for posts in r.s.u.
If you’re going to give reputation votes give them for posts that deserve it. And give them for posts of substance (either positive substance or negative substance). Just giving out reputation points randomly does not tell the receiver much at all. Linking the vote to a post that you feel worthy of a positive or negative vote is more informative.
Haven’t you recently started doing abortions as well?
Yeah, as a rule, if you’re not willing to put your name to the ‘comments’ attached to the rep points, you shouldn’t be giving them. Good or bad.
I’ve found that the words “Rep Points” in the left column are already a link to the post for which the points were left.
I know I said I’d probably never look at Rep Points again, but now it’s sort of interesting to see how the game is being played out.
B
Go get stuffed.
Is that better?
Forgive me, I graduated from college recently and went on a nice long vacation; I’m much less grumpy these days ('tho I still got the “bad blood” in me).
dude…like a TON of people are giving me negative rep points, and leaving mean comments too ):
happends top me too.
IF I give reps, I write my name in there.
Are there people out there committing random acts of negative rep-giving?
Also, in the beginning, I think it is okay to give positive reputation points retroactively. In other words, someone has contributed greatly to these forums. Today they make an average post. It occurs to you to give them reputation. So, you link it to their average post, simply because it’s there and you are thinking about it. (WHY do you have a general desire to give them reputation? Because of their past contributions. So, the reputation is deserved.)
I’m probably guilty of not taking the reputation system entirely seriously. Should we (take the reputation system seriously)? We should either not bother with it, or use it correctly, whatever that means.
LOL, look what happened here. Sounds like some sort of “technical” offense.
I’m starting to think that the reputation system is more trouble than it’s worth. On the other hand, it was fun to get some really nice reputation feedback comments, but those comments could easily have been put in the thread itself.
But getting back to what happened to UNIquelyCanadian (and others), how freely should one give negative reputation? Personally, I would save it for the most egregious offenses only. But I would much more readily give positive reputation. Is it correct to be quick to compliment/thank/encourage/reward and slow to criticize? (in “real life”, I think the answer is yes) Or should it be balanced?
I guess if the reputation system works, it might help new members, but new members don’t stay new forever. They read and they learn who’s who. That’s what we do in life. Do we really need an automated system? I can form my own opinions, thank you very much. In real life, I try to base my opinions of people on first-hand experience only, not what other people say about the person.
(I’m not against the reputation system; I’m just having serious doubts about it.)
yaaay, a bunch of people just gave me happy rep points!! (: that makes me feel happy now.
