It was a very tight space - only room for two revolutions before hitting the tweenage JLS fan girls. I mounted holding the edge of a backdrop and just had to roll forward as slowly as possible across shot. Not ideal 36ering time, but great to get some distance unicycling in mainstream media.
Very relieved when it went off without a UPD live on primetime!
Tom got his smiling mug on telly too. Fun had by all.
Well done on ‘One’ guys. Well I’m all for publicity to promote the cause. This prompted me to consider how the actual ride itself my be recorded. I have my own support-vehicle driver producing a video from planned sections of the ride. Is anyone else expecting to video - perhaps headcam footage?
I was nervous . . . not about going on the one show, but about meeting Sam . He was great, a Top Man. He had the tough job - as stated the space was tiny, would not of looked good if he had ploughed into Angela Rippon. I may have had all the glory (face / name in lights), but he deservers all the praise. Thank you again Sam, I felt like I was standing on the shoulders of giants . . . . hey, maybe we could do that the next time we are on .
Stop spamming the forums and facebook pages with this link. There is already a page on unicycling, liked by >10k people. There are also many more specific unicycling pages.
The funny thing is that up until last July I used to work in that building and use to ride in under the window of the One Show every day on my 29 or 36er. And when I say “ride in”, the security guys there got to the stage where if they saw me coming they’d open the large door for me and then use their pass to open the wide security gate inside so that I could cycle right up to the lift. Same on the way out (although sometimes on the condition that I performed a loop around the foyer first).
Given that security there is normally so damned tight, it made me think that if terrorists were serious about attacking the BBC all they’d have to do would be to do it on unicycles and apparently they’d be waved straight through! Oh and full marks to the Beeb for letting me take it in there to start with.
By the way (just to get back on topic) I am keen to join in on the L2B ride, I just can’t commit yet because my wife’s due to give birth at the end of June.

No - my contract ended last year. Which is actually for the best because I live about 500yrds up the road so it wasn’t really such great exercise for me.
Just sorted my travel and hotels…was just over half the price to fly down instead of taking the train!!.. no wonder public transport isnt very popular!
Having said that it is with sleasyjet so hope I get there
Lol presently you’ve probably got more chance of a spectacular UPD on that GUni of yours than getting Sleezjet to deliver you on time! I like innovators … Look forward to meeting
