Reeder seat handle orientation

I just bought the Reeder handle and the carbon fiber
seat frame. What’s the best way to orient the handle
relative to the seat?

I found a few photos of installs, going from most
angled in, to most angled out:

I am thinking of going with orientation #2 above.
I am guessing you want to keep the middle part
of the handle away from your legs during a fall,
so you want to angle-in some. But OTOH, you
want some angle-out since it would seem easier
to grab that way.

they all look the same if you dont have a handle, but they are differant some what…i went with #3

i also cut an inch off…have fun putting that all together,it took me about 3 hours cause i was being so carefull.

Here’s a few different views of my handle. I’m running an ODI “Lock-on” grip if you were wondering.

Re: Reeder seat handle orientation

Thanks, I got the handle installed without any problems.
It also took me about 3 hours to get everything together.
It was helpful to have a variable-speed reversible drill,
a drill set, and a grinding attachment to the drill for squaring
off the holes (instead of a file).

I also installed the air pillow and the Roach seat cover,
but it felt less comfortable than before. It seemed like
the Roach cover was stretched tight on one side and
it was digging into my inner thigh. I couldn’t adjust the
air pressure to correct the problem.

So rather than removing the Miyata padding to make
room for the air pillow, I put the padding back in, and
put the air pillow on top of the Miyata saddle, using the
Roach cover to hold everything in place. It works great now.

The downside is that I have to partially remove the
Roach cover to inflate the pillow, however it’s not
that difficult.

I have some pics that I was going to upload to the
unicyclist.com web site, however even after creating
an account I couldn’t figure out how to do it.

I couldn’t get the web-based stuff to work, however the
ftp access is working fine. Ftp over to unicyclist.com,
login using your account name and put your files underneath
the web directory.

I uploaded some pics of my install at:

Sorry, no descriptions yet.

While riding today, the end of the handle was poking
me in the left leg somewhat, so I plan to shorten it.
And it felt like I was sliding around on the vinyl seat,
although I was wearing jeans instead of shorts cuz
it was so cold. But it is more comfortable and
you can pull so much harder on the handle.

Re: Reeder seat handle orientation

I notice you appear to have left the steel reinforcement plate in on the
carbon fibre base, this is not required the seat is easy strong enough and
if you have filed the holes square you can ditch so saving you some weight.

Cheers

Roger
