Reeder Handle with Magura Brake using Wilder Bracket (photos)

I have put some photos up:

Bronson,

The picture of the Magura brake with Reeder handle is great. I’m convinced.
Any tips before I take a drill to my carbon fibre seat? Nathan Hoover had
mentioned that he was able to re-use one of the screw - holes left by the
Miyata handle.

While I’m at it, I should see if I can get the metal coverered Magura brake
line to replace my plastic one.

Thanks,

Joe

Yes, you can use the front bolt hole

Yes, you can use the front bolt. If you are running a 3’’ Gazz you will want to replace the stock crossover cable. It means that a stainless steel brake line kit meant for two brakes will be needed to setup one brake. Before using a stainless line kit I broke a plastic brake line.

Also, I had to order my last stainless brake line kit directly from Magura because the bike shop I had used before was having difficulty with their distributor that gets them.

Great photos! I added a couple showing my almost identical brake setup to my
“Our Unicycles and bicycles” album at
http://community.webshots.com/user/muni_nathan/1 and added a new album with
a few pictures from our ride today at Wilder Ranch where I got to try out
riding with my new HS33 brake. Man is the brake great. Installation is
tricky, but luckily Bronson showed me how it’s done and it worked like a
charm. I think I’ve got the ultimate muni setup for my riding - no need to
change anything at all!

My evaluation of the Reeder handle: I installed it and went through cutting
it down shorter twice. For the first month I was still bothered occasionally
by it hitting my leg in crashes. Lately it hasn’t bothered me at all.
Overall it is a HUGE improvement over the Miyata handle. The Miyata handle
was never intended to be pulled with the amount of force I sometimes use.
With a Wilder bracket and brake handle attached, the Reeder handle works
perfectly well. I even crashed sort of badly today, leaving the unicycle to
fall into a sharp pile of rocks - no damage. The Reeder handle protects the
brake handle and extension well. It is just bombproof and feels great when
used with a Harbinger wrist guard.

This is a great reference site for set up etc. of magura brakes.

One other thing, if you can get ahold of the translucent “Plasma” brake pads, sold by Monty, they
work a lot better than the brake pads that come with Maguras.
