i just installed one of these(Reeder handle) and it is the best thing i have ever done.i dont know why i did’nt install one sooner.the power to the wheel on long steep desents is incredable.
my rolling hops have increaced in height dramaticly
so the challenge is this: IF THERE IS ONE PERSON WHO HAS TRIED THE REEDER HANDLE, AND PUT THERE MIYATA FINGER STRAINER BACK ON…i would just like to know
you freestyle guys are exempt, cause i know it would suck for that style of uni riding
Any reason why you sent the KH back? and what all did you do to the Profile? I’m going to finish building my United (profile cranks + hubs) then get a Coker, and eventually a nice MUni… something nice but nothing crazy… probably a Power Pashley.
After riding with it for a while, I’ve thought, “hmm, I sure do hold that
handle a lot, and grip it tightly, and pull it with a lot of force…”
There was definitely hand strain that was not there before. It did not
bother me, but common sense says it may over time. So, I have, and
continue to use the reeder style handle, but mentally, I try to avoid
gripping it unless I need it.
I use the reeder handle for muni and coker (it’s not ideal for the coker,
but better than any other options on the market), and use the miyata for
freestyle and trials.

The Reeder Handle is totally impractical for seat drags. Kris has said that learning to seat drag will help in doing seat out front jumps and drops. If you can’t practice seat drags with it, it is useless and will hamper your skill development.
Well, I was going to take mine off so that I could practice John Child’s
favorite trick (drinking an ale while seat dragging), but I decided to leave
it on.
It’s been on since August and is fantastic. No finger pain at all since
then, and I’ve managed new extremes (for me anyway) of both down and up.
Hopping has also greatly improved during that time. Plus it’s a nice place
for my hand or hands to just rest on easy parts.

Ah, you must not have the “retractable” version
The grip on mine did get scuffed pretty good doing seat drags, maybe ODI
Lock-Ons are in order, then the metal clamp would take the beating.
Is Chris still selling these? I’ve heard a lot of postive response on this
handle, but I have a question. I forget the exact orientation of the handle
to the seat, but doesn’t it have a certain phallic resemblance? I’m not sure
I want that thing sticking out from between my legs. I get enough comments
as it is! Does it come in flesh tones?
Seriously though, since my carbon fibre already has the holes for the Miyata
handle, would I need to drill new holes? Will the carbon fibre be
compromised with all those holes?

I don’t think you want a flesh-toned one, but yes, you will have to drill
more holes, and no, this won’t compromise the strength of the CF base. I
ended up drilling only two new holes by reusing the front one from the
Miyata handle. You get them from unicycle.com now.

Allright! You are talking me into it! But what about my Magura brake? Mine
is currently rigged with an extension like Kris Holm’s. It’s really nice.
Has any one rigged a brake lever to work in a nice ergonomic with with a
Reeder handle? I think this is probably feasible, just curious if anyone has
done it already. (Using Wilder SB1 bracket with brake post)
Also, I can’t help but ask the question, what is Kris’s opinion on this? The
main drawback I see with this is that it forces you into being “one” handed.
Of course I don’t think I’ve ever actually USED my left hand in MUni, so it
may be irrelevant.

Joe, you realize that if you get the reeder, everyone in the club is going
to want to get one. So warn Reeder, and be aware that you are going to
cause a lot of reeder-envy in the group. I’d definitely go with the
flesh-toned one.

I haven’t followed this thread but I guess it’s about using the wilder bracket with a Reeder
handle.
Potentially I think it could be really good. I had a Reeder handle for a while but due to a
manufacturing quirk it didn’t quite fit properly (was too close to the front of the seat frame)
and I never used it with the brake. Currently I just use the Miyata handle, but I think that the
existing tube on the current Wilder bracket extends forward enough to use it with the Reeder
handle.
This isn’t totally relevent because I don’t make them, but I’d like to see a reeder-style handle
but which was curved symmetrically around the front, so it could be used equally by either hand.
I think there’s enough adjustment in how you grip the handle without having to make it ergonomic
for one hand or the other. Ultimately, from a manufacturing standpoint, I think that an improved
version of the Miyata style plastic handle may be the best solution because it’s lighter, easier
to mass-produce (once the mold is made) and better for trials and street freestyle (where the
reeder handle gets in the way of some freestyle tricks).
No official announcement yet, but you may see such a handle in the near future, attached to an
awesomely comfortable new seat…
Cheers,
Kris.

i don’t have a didg.camera, but it would be nice if somebody that does could take a picture of themselves or another accualy riding with the reeder handle.
this would be good for,(beside the fact that there is’nt any pictures with people riding with it),disproveing the fear that it looks like your junk …
the fact is that its higher than the Miyata finger strainer handle, when i was using the Miyata i allways felt like i was doing the Michael Jackson whenever i grabed it.
