I wear (ha, geddit, eyewear!) my glasses all hte time, including for MUni. They are plastic, not real glass, so they shouldn’t shatter on impact. I guess If you don’t wear glasses, a pair of cyclist’s sunglasses would do, although If you are MUniing in forests they would not be good due to the rapid changes in light levels. If you can find some of the only slightly tinted ones, they could be quite good. Try to get some that keep quite close into your face, rather than sticking out and getting caught on branches.
I have a great suggestion; I’ve been meaning to post it.
$5 at Wal-Mart. FIVE DOLLARS.
Smith and Wesson Safety/Shooting Glasses. They fit snugly, wrap-around, have a very comfortable nosepiece. They are also very optically correct. I was/still am shocked. When I went to the bike shop the glasses were running $120.
Yep. That’s what I was hoping for! I definitely don’t want anything tinted - I would imagine these are strong enough, and if you lose them, buy another!
I called a bike shop the other day and they had something for $100+! Screw that.
Go to anywhere that handles safety glasses (aka: your local hardware store). There are now many different designs and some of them are quite stylish. The best part is: they’re CHEAP and they’re SAFETY GLASSES!!! hehe

I stopped using sunglasses in my early days of MUni in California, because on a sunny day (like most are in the warmer months), the bright sunny areas are contrasted by very dark shadows, which appear black with sunglasses. You need to be able to see the ground at least a little!
But I have also had close encounters with sticks and branches, while looking down at the trail ahead. So a pair of lightly tinted, or non-tinted glasses would be good, especially if they offer UV protection.
There are lots of cheap sunglasses out there, though never in a bike shop. If you lived on Long Island I’d tell you to go to the Roosevelt Field Flea Market. Except it may not exist anymore, as they tore down the Roosevelt Raceway. Flea markets like that are also where you can get the kind of bags I use for flying with unicycles.
Those glasses at Kmart sound like a great buy for this type of use.
Cheap, shatterproof safety glasses. You can get different coloured lenses for different light conditions. They’re great for winter Muni/bike riding as well.
