Reclaim The Streets! Reclaim the Footpaths!!!

Hi,

A group of avid cyclists in the Brisbane area (yeah, two wheels) have organised
a Reclaim The Streets which happens on the first Wednesday of each month -
this morning being the first.

Basically, the objectives are: To demonstrate that
- bicycles are a viable alternative to cars
- bicycles and cars can share the roads
- there are a significant number of commuter cyclists
- wide curb lanes would benifit both cars and bicycles

To encourage:
- others to commute by bicycle
- other groups to hold similar rides
- Brisbane City Council to incorporate provision for bicycles in road design
- cars drivers to become more tolerant of bicycles on the roads

and to have a pleasant commute to work chatting to other cyclists!

Anyway, I organised my own Recliam the Footpaths which was run in conjunction
with the two wheel thing, where I unicycled to show:

- unicycles are a viable alternative to both cars and bicycles
- unicycles can ride on the footpaths as well as share the roads with two
  and four wheel things
- there is one unicycling commuter
- any curb would benifit unicycles

To encourage:
- others to commute on unicycles
- other groups to hold similar rides
- Brisbane City Council to incorporate provision for unicycles in
road design
- two wheel and four wheel things to become more tolerant of unicycles on
the footpaths and the roads

The ride this morning was around 16km (10 miles) and I was able to keep up the
the other group by knowing the back streets REALLY well. I also didn’t get
harassed by the police for being a danger on the road

Anyway, my suggestion is, that on the first Wednesday on each month (for those
that don’t already commute to work/uni etc) everyone takes part in the Reclaim
the Footpaths
awareness ride!!!

Cheers, jason

Two wheels bad, One wheel good.
