teachndad,

That’s a great response. I’m 6’0" and my legs are of “average”
thickness. So what size do you have? I checked the size chart on
www.sixsixone.com but I don’t think I understand the “openings” that
they quote.

kLaas,

Hi, I wear the large size in the 4x4 shin guard set. I originally bought the medium size, but found them too small around the calf of all places, but long enough. The overlap for the velco strap that is at that location on the guards barely made it across.

I sent those back and bought the large size and have been very happy with them ever since.

In response to your question on the chart:

When I bought mine through Unicycle.com, I thought the sizing chart was based on length. Now it seems to be on inner diameter. This is basically the measurement of the circumference around your leg at the lowest and highest points of the guards.

The top hole is approximately 3" above the kneecap when the leg is extended straight. The lowest point of the guards is just above the ankle. The lower diameter on my leg has a little over 1" of overlap on the velcro; a suitable amount of overlap IMHO.

The top diameter on my leg has me fastening the velcro all the way over to the beginning of the velcro. This means that I ride with the velcro attached at the minimum diameter. This gives me some wiggle room but is still comfortable. I wouldn’t want them super tight on the upper diameter hole.

My upper diameter measurement at the top of the guards is @18". The lower diameter above my ankle measures nearly 11".

I would go with the large size, but keep in mind that with your height, you may run into the problem of the guards sliding down when hopping a lot. Then you don’t get quite the coverage over the knee that you should have. That has NOT been my experience. I only mention that because in other posts regarding knee/shin guards, this has been a concern, as I recall. I think some tall or large riders have specially made Roach knee pads through Roach. You might want to post another thread regarding this aspect.

Also, when removing the velcro, always remove it perpindicular to your leg in a cross wise motion. In my haste one day, I pulled up at the corner of the velcro and ripped the strap half way up. I could take it to a shoemaker or seamstress to fix it, but it is holding up nevertheless.

Welcome to muni, it rocks.

Hope this helps.

BTW, it’s nice to see your posts are only repeating twice and not three times as they used to long ago.

Work the maze.

Email Roach if you need specially fit pads. They do custom colour jobs (see Kris Holms red flames) for 15% over the selling price (peanuts)

I can see the custom fit being roughly the same price

Last time you used exactly the same funny way of capitalising

I think I figured that out but at the time the numbers did seem to
make little sense. I tried to go to the size chart again but
experience technical difficulties.

Mine are 16.5 and 9.5 respectively (no socks or pants). I’ll check the
site some other time again to see if that would still translate to
Large.

Thanks, good tip.

I remember someone made that remark before, maybe you. I usually post
each message only once :-), and I see it once, whether I look on the
newsgroup (my default), or on the unicyclist.com forum, or via Google
Groups. BTW, are they REPEATING twice? I mean, they shouldn’t repeat
at all.

Thanks but I don’t know if I need a special fit. I’m an average guy,
leg-wise. I think I’ll stick with the 661 4x4 combo.
