raytraced unicycle

Salut,

I looked at the raytraced uni pictures on http://students.cs.byu.edu/~ecliptix/
and I have to say that I was deeply impressed, especially by the tire. How did
you do this?

Re: raytraced unicycle

Well thank you. I did this through a mix of 5 years 3d graphics experience, a
little bit of ingenuity ( not much ), and an incredible program called Animation
Master ( http://www.hash.com/ ). I’ll tell you the way I did the tire. I just
made a smooth tire object ( I know that you know how to do this… I’ve seen
yours ) and then texture mapped
it. I drew a tile in Photoshop of one tread unit, and then put a bump-map (
basically alters the lighting of the object to make it appear bumpy,
doesn’t actually change the geometry ) around the tire. If you want a more
detailed description, let me know and I’ll keep it off the ng so as not to
annoy those who aren’t interested in graphics.

If your computer’s weird like mine, you might be able to view the animations sf
the uni as well…they’re at the bottom of the page zipped in avi format. I
guess they’re in a weird format that cannot be read by many computers, though.
Eventually I’ll get around to fixing them.

 You can’t have seen mine, as it isn’t on the web at this time, but
thanks. It looks good, but not good enough for the public (yet).

O.k. I think I can manage this, thank you.
