Raleigh?

A friend has just ordered a unicycle from a local bike shop, and is
eagerly awaiting its delivery (I’ve already been approached for
“lessons”, and I’m only a novice myself!). She said it’s a Raleigh, but
I’ve not ever seen reference to Raleigh Unicycles, nor can I find any
mention on their website.

Is she mistaken?

My first Unicycle was a basic 20" chrome Unicycle imported by Raleigh. I bought it from my local bike shop, it has no markings or stickers and is the same as some of the starter Unicycles from places like The Unicycle Source Page. It was a good Unicycle to learn on, because of the relatively low price you didn’t worry about it getting bumped about when you had to bail out, or when you fell off.

Trevor, A while back when I bought a CyclePro 20" unicycle I was told
that it was being manufactured by Raleigh. I don’t know if this is true
or not, though.

I had one of these. Great for learning on. The only thing to watch out for
is the bolts holding the bearing holders onto the wheel are quite tight
but not too tight. It’s probably worth putting a little bit of Loctite
Thread stuff on it (from any hardware shop) as if they come loose then
they start eating into the frame and then the bolts will never tighten
properly as you have a little groove cut into the frame by the bolts. I
managed to break mine totally when I started learning to hop it and riding
on rougher terrain and stuff like that. It does well as a starter uni and
the seat isn’t too bad, but don’t ride anything too rough or hop high with
it. I seem to remember it being quite good for unicycle jousting with
broom handles but I can’t remember exactly why. We taught several drunk
people on them too and the unicycles seemed to take a lot of dropping
without breaking.
