After browsing some other disussion boards here’s another favorite:

Blow in envelope
Carnack: What is the sound made when a sheep explodes.
And a really funny comment from a discussion board:
“how many children in our country were conceived with Johnny Carson playing in the background? Think about it.”
Thats deep, there’s someone that has their needs and priorities straight.
I always wanted to go on Carson. That’s what we called The Tonight Show then. But I didn’t focus on the proper promotion materials and doing the legwork to be considered for the show. This would have started with a good, professional video of my act.
But Carson loved variety acts. A quote he made from right after a friend of mine was on the show: “I love variety acts.” That was Russel Feig, who currently performs in Las Vegas under the name Russ merlin.
I know several jugglers and other variety performers who were on Carson. It was always a huge resume credit. People who were on his show, even in the, 70s or 80s, likely still use it in their list of credits.
Alas, Jay Leno (who I actually met at a comedy club once, but that’s another story) is not so into variety acts, and you rarely see them on today’s Tonight Show. David Letterman kind of makes fun of them, in bits like “Is This Anything.” I wouldn’t want to be part of that.
But like so many others, I loved the Carson show. Johnny, I’m sorry we never saw you after 1992, and you will be sorely missed.
David Letterman did a tribute show to Johnny Carson tonight. This is the first live show for the Late Show With David Letterman since Johnny’s death.
The monologue was all jokes sent in by Johnny Carson over the past couple months. Only David didn’t let on to that until after the monologue was over. He had the producer for Johnny Carson’s show on as the main guest. Then Doc Severinsen played Johnny’s favorite ballad. The same ballad that was played on the penultimate tonight show before Johnny retired.
A very nice tribute show. I’m glad that Leno’s and Letterman’s tribute shows were spaced out and on different nights. If they were on the same night I’d have missed one of them.
Did you record it? I fell asleep before the news and missed the whole thing.
No, I didn’t record it. I should have, but wasn’t thinking about that.
I did record the Jay Leno tribute show.
burn that piece of crap!
Leno with a tear welling as he reads from cue cards, what a loser.
I can burn it to a DVD for ya.
I recorded the Jay Leno show because I went to bed early that night and didn’t stay up to watch it live.
The monologue in the Letterman show was weird because the jokes weren’t all current. Some were about things that were no longer current news. I was listening to the monologue and wondering why he was recycling old material for the jokes. Then after the monologue he explained that all of the jokes were written by Johnny Carson and sent in over the past couple months.
