lol
that makes me angeeerry
I was on a group training ride (bicycle group) on Saturday and a lady shook her head and said “There’s always one.”
I have yet to meet another unicyclist. There must be some sort of cosmic forces maintaining a strict quota of 1 unicyclist per ride.
I’ve had times where I one-foot past someone, go back to normal, crank grab a 2.5 foot bench, go to rubber, and jump off the other side, and someone asks me if I can do any cool tricks.
People are never satisfied. ![]()
That’s like with juggling. People (non-jugglers) are no more impressed by 5 balls than with 3, even though 5 balls is a hundred times harder to learn.
I took the muni into the LBS for a little work and a little boy there with his Mom charged over to me and said
“Wow - it’s muddy. You usually don’t see these things with mud on them.” He then proceeded to clean the dried mud out of the knobbies with his fingers!
You weren’t nice, so your dad only bought you half a bicycle:p
That’s what a construction worker said to me today:D
I was at Pembrey Country Park on the weekend, and got my first round of applause. I was sitting on the bench at the top of a hill when a family came walking up. The kids eyes grew wide when they saw the uni, and I got the usual “Wow, can you really ride that?” comment.
I said “Yup. In fact, I’m going to ride it down there.” I say, pointing to the path they have just walked up.
“No way!” exclaims child number 2.
“Yes way!” I retort.
I mount and ride down the hill. It’s a lot steeper than it looks. Honest.
When I get to the bottom I get applause from the family.
I raise my arms in triumph, wave, and ride off.
Bet you were the talk at their dinner table that night.
Why does it never look as steep on the photo ![]()
I’m always a bit afraid to do any arm waving/triumphing type of thing. I always have a vivid picture of myself falling flat on my face and looking extremely stupid. I will, however, endulge in a smirk every now and then.
I had a run-in with the police today.
I just got to some train tracks that I had ridden on before when I hear this horn/beep for an officer on a motorcycle. He started shaking his head and was like “not on the train tracks…” then left. So I just awkwardly walked off and when to a different set that were hidden. ![]()
some bikers were riding out side my local library (my favorite riding spot) and were tring to jump up a 2.5, maybe 3 foot ledge, and were failing. So i ride up and crank grab it, and do a 180 off. turn to them and im like, “you know how you can do more tricks with a bike if you take off the training wheels, well that still applies” ![]()
FACE! ![]()
Smirking is a constant for me when people are amazed/expect me not to be able to do something easy. Usually I wait till I’m facing away from them though.
Hey Look! A one wheeled Bicycle.
Last week somebody said. Hey nice Tricycle.
I’ve heard the tricycle comment a couple times too – seems kinda common, what’s up with that?
Not a bicycle = tricycle?
Roak
Yesterday, at the top of a hill with me sweating profusely, a surprised woman on a bike said to me: “Na co trenujete!?” Which means, “On what are you training!?” Pretty funny and I was happy to understand it. Czech is a tough language, but if I can learn to unicycle, I’ve been telling myself I ought to be able to learn it too.
Well, I’m by no means Czech language authority, but because Polish and Czech have a lot in common and they are syntactically close enough I can extrapolate that it rather meant “for what are you training” ![]()
+1
Substitute Polish for Russian.
I think she asked what do you want to become through your training. Something along those lines.
my office lies at the bottom of a cliff near Paris.
when I commute home I must use a very steep road, then stairs , then another climb (I start unicycling only at this stage).
So yesterday I went out of my office and started walking while pushing my Uni in front of me.
there was that little boy along the way (age about 5/6) : “hey! why did you break your bike?”![]()
edit: he was timid so no pun intended he was sincere!
Yeah! You guys are right. I took the literal translation and it was wrong. I just asked my girlfriend (she’s Slovak) and she confirmed it. She did mean “For what are you training?” And that means my answer, “Na jednokolce” (On a unicycle) wasn’t correct either. I suppose she was fishing for an answer about the circus.
I went for a ride today and stopped by target to get some water, and I rode into the parking lot weaving between cars and stuff and I ride past this kid who looked really sad and like he didn’t want to be there (he was maybe 8 years old) and I rode past him and his face just brightened and he looks at his mom and says “you don’t see that everyday!” then he noticed I didn’t have a helmet on and said “No Helmet either!” and I rode up to the curb by the doors and hopped up it and I hear this clapping and look over and the little boy has a huge smile on his face, then I fell off… and before that I was riding through the parking lot and this family was walking to their car and the dad sees me and says “Now THAT is the coolest thing I’ve ever seen” and the whole family agreed… that made me feel really good.
