Quote of the day (from non-riders)

That could indeed be a source of great trouble!
Well, maybe if you all unicycled to a different country… :uni:

I’ve noticed that when riding normal uni, some peeps are just negative with their remarks if I lost something, but with the big 36” UW, people are really interested and want to make conversation. Today there was a dad with his son on rollerblades and for his boy it was the 4th time riding them. The dad was more interested in watching me ride the wheel and wanted to know where I got it.
Some other place where I was trying to free-mount, which I still find very difficult, a guy rode with his family and he offered to let me rest on his shoulder for taking off. I told him I needed to learn to free-mount but thanked him for his kindness.

I made the same experience. Maybe it’s the speed which gives people time for a quick conversation.

Yeah, sorry about that. I can’t help myself.

I think @PedalSprell should use shorter cranks in order to ride fast enough for you to not be able to sneak up.

Ruari might then change his comment to “You lost a crank!“, coz he doesn’t see it/them

There is a high chance that @ruari would catch up with me nevertheless.

Especially on his highwheel.

Not on his Tallbike though. :princess::unicorn:

Today on the 22km trip already at the start there were 2 peeps on a tandem and the woman on the back saw some recognition in my ride and gave the thumbs up. Then there were peeps saying “knap hoor” (= well done) and wow. At some point I held up my right hand for balance and a guy asked jokingly if I was indicating I wanted to turn right, even though there were bushes. Then when nearly back at the car , I was thinking “luckily nobody asked about my other wheel” when some old peeps passed me and the guy remarked I had lost my wheel grrrr.

Today my sister (9) said,

‘I can see your future. You will be circus freak.’

My brother, (18) also said,

‘Unicyclists are stupid and retarded, and all of them are dumb clowns who wear makeup and ride through flaming rings next to tigers and get laughed at for being stupid.’

My dad laughed, and my mom said nothing. My family does not appreciate the wonderful world of unicycling.

Hope your family is a bit more supportive in general.
Then again, you‘re well prepared for negative comments from random people…

Dont worry about it. My family doesnt care about it either. It wont stop me from enjoying my rides.

I have an idea… Get them to try unicycling for a couple hours and maybe they will change their tune :face_with_hand_over_mouth: Maybe they will gain a little more respect for so-called “circus freaks”!

Unicycling is an awesome hobby to have, and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise :cowboy_hat_face:

Yes, that is so true.

How

Don’t worry about how. It’s evolution. You either make it or you don’t.

Some of us will make it, but most of us won’t. (they might be most)

Last week on holiday I had taken my 24” muni and went for a ride along a canal towpath. Stopped to walk past a guy (I’d guess he was in his 60’s, wearing jeans and rigger boots) and he said ‘That’s cool, I’ve never seen anyone ride a unicycle before. Can I try it?’

I said yes, but a narrow path next to a canal might not be the best place to start.

He asked how to get on it. I showed him how I free mount then offered to support him since free mounting is difficult.

He said ‘That looks awkward, I’ll just try it this way’ and proceeded to do a leg wrap mount and ride off along the track. Turns out he’d been a street circus performer back in the 80’s. He’d never seen a muni though, and asked for information about nimbus and udc as he was now interested in buying one!

Yesterday as I unicycled home I came up behind some guy on one of those small electric transport devices that have a single wheel in the middle of a board, that is ridden like a skateboard. The guy riding it was not going very fast (and intentionally weaving back and forth). Probably just having fun because it was new, I guess. I was potentially faster than him but since he weaved so much I did not feel comfortable overtaking.

Anyway some kids saw me and pointed directly at me and made a comment about my unicycle. Since he did not know I was behind, he waved and smiled at them.

There was a point shortly after when I could have safely overtaken but I held back and let him have his moment.

It was one of these things (see attached picture).

He looked so happy to be aknowledged. I couldn’t take that from him.

You should make a t-shirt
