For MUni, work shoes (low) with steel toes and a low heel. The heel
gives me a reference point for foot positioning, and helps prevent the
foot slip off the front when cranking up a steep grade and exerting
forward force at the top of the stroke, in an effort to pedal in a
circle.

For freestyle and distance riding I use the same shoes but have the
pedal further to the front so the shoes could as well have flat soles.
