quick Kris Holm Question

Does anyone know what year they did away with the ‘neck’ of the frame getting wider at the bottom? (right before it forks out)

The current frames have external butting at the crown joint. Here’s a photo from krisholm.com that shows the butting:

the 08 frames were the first to have double butting

'07 frames don’t have the slightly wider necks at the join.

'08 do and '09 frames are even more reinforced.

All are decent frames, street and flat riders tend to break the necks eventually. For trials '07 frames are sufficient. (or at least as far as aluminium frames do…)

My frame is straight up/down. No “butting” Was trying to figure out the year.

2005: First Aluminum frame
2006: Bridge under the crown
2007: Knurled pattern on the crown
2008: Butted seat post & thicker sidewalls
2009: ?
2010: Thicker tubing (30% increased strength)

Im going to assume mine is an 07 then.

thanks

They really should stamp serial numbers on the frames with the year encoded.

It wouldn’t matter, I just painted it. LOL

By “stamp” I meant a physical impression in the metal. A second coat of paint may or may not cover it, but even if it did, the paint could be removed to discover the serial number.
