Hey, if I have a light that uses this specification:
12-30V DC
does anyone know of a suitable power source I could throw in a backpack and take on the go?

You need to specify either the power required or the current required at operating voltage in addition to the operating voltage. Then we would need to know how long you need to use the device without recharging or replacing the power source.
thanks Greg, this is the light i would like to power:
how long do i need to power it for? I would have to determine this based on how much battery I could carry
there is a $1000 battery belt listed, but I’m thinking something cheaper is available, especially with my ability to carry a backpack (not cool at weddings, though!)
Just call up your Uncle Fester. He could light that puppy all day long.
Did you notice the light i linked to is a ‘lowel’? I’ll have to contacted them to correct their spelling
Here are some NiMH battery packs. Nickel metal hydride batteries are cheap and lightweight but have a finite lifetime. These packs are about 10amp-hours and range up to about $300 with a variety of voltages. The belt that can be supplied as an accessory to your lamp produces about 4A-h at 30VDC and 8A-h at 13VDC. These packs have roughly equal power output and total energy storage.
Lithium hydroxide batteries are superior from the standpoints of lifetime and deep charge. They are more expensive but would work fine.
car battery, get one from your local garage.
This is of course the ideal, readily available, inexpensive solution with MAMMOTH storage capacity. The hyper-sensitive pantywastes at weddings would probably object to the heavy, sulfuric acid and lead bearing ugly, black box being lugged into their ceremony. Sissies.
my wedding lighting is already covered…i’m thinking more of unicycle movies kinda filming for a massive light source like this…i think i could probably lug a cat battery around with me
edit…do things like skidoos and atv’s use ‘small car batteries’?
Motorcycles do.
Here are some small, sealed, lead-acid batteries for UPS’s and the such. If you can use lead-acid it’s certainly the cheapest and highest energy-density way to go.
AWESOME
thanks
We were simul-posting as I editted my last entry. It has a link to some lead-acid batteries.
ehhhhxcellent, thanks again
Isn’t that a job for Miss A?
When you say portable power sources. Do you mean like these???
1) Black & Decker Electromate 400
2) The Box - Portable Power Distribution Center
