First off, I can now land the side mount!! Took me, oh I dunno, 5 minutes? But the one I really want to learn is the kickup mount. Can anyone give me some advice?
Yeah, only took me a short while to get the side mount - I was expecting it to take ages. The kick-up has to be the one to nail though. I’ll be watching this thread for tips!
Just try it a few times. It didn’t take long to learn. I think I may have learned it before I ever completed a side mount. Here’s a short step by step of how I do it:
Note: I usually mount with the right foot first/down
Position the unicycle so the saddle is on the ground facing forward on the left of the wheel. Position the pedals so the right crank is just right of perpendicular to the frame and facing me.
Place left foot against saddle (so it’s touching where you would normally be sitting).
Quickly, put right foot on right crank/pedal, lean to the right, and lift saddle with left foot. You don’t have the lift the saddle much, the force of your weight on the right crank will lift the cycle. Allow the saddle to hit your right inner thigh (and try to make it stop there).
Place left foot on left pedal. Do a half rotation back if you need to. And ride away.
I’d post a vid, but I don’t have my camera on me.
The main thing is to practice.
Good luck,
Daniel
Cheers Daino!
I’m out tomorrow to start taking more skin off my shins (elbows, knees, etc. - Ok, so I should get some armour!)
I just gotta nail that mount!
only one thing to add to daino’s write-up
i’ve found that it makes more sense to me to move my body diagonally forward (towards and slightly ‘over’ the wheel) instead of just sideways
i found that if i go sideways only, i battle to land the mount and normally UPD backwards
