Okay Gang… I’ve been off the unis for awhile. I tried “stuffing” a Miyata
seat with a small 12-inch <?> innertube I got shipped with the seat. Didn’t
see to help. I took that out, and put in a 26-inch <?> innertube. This one
also seems a little “off”. What size innertube have some/most/all of you
used when you redid your Miyata seats? THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!

PS Yeah, I know there was a whole buttload of discussions about this earlier.
UNfortunately, I didn’t save any posts regarding what size innertube to use.
I know- “Duh”. <g

I’ve done a couple and always used a 12" tube. The way you fold it is important
see the instructions that Rick Bissell posted in this thread.

I have one with a twenty and one with an eighteen tube, both seem fine, i think
the 18 just slightly better, but can’t really remember which is which any more
as I’ve swapped saddles about, I’ve done one with a skinny 27 tube before and
that worked ok but was a bugger to fold and squash into the seat cover. Don’t
forget to leave a thin layer of foam ( 1-2cm) in there so you have some padding
if you get a flat tube, I have done and even with the thin foam it was not comfy
to ride. ( I had to ride about 3 miles on it to get to a pump, oops.)

Depending where you ride(and wheel size), you may want to consider using a tube
that matches yur wheel size to have as a spare. I ride a 24" and use a 24" tube
in the seat. I have no foam and use a bit of tape to lightly wrap around the
tube to hold its shape under the tube and prevent it from slipping out around
the edges or getting caught on sharp areas under seat.
I (with other Muniers) was in the rockies last year on a Muni trip. After about
3 hours of excellent riding (some climbing, some falling!) one of our tubes
died and we were glad we had some spares under our seats. We had the few
essential tools (of course) with us to remove the wheel and change the tube and
were able to finish riding out the last few km without damage to rims or having
a rough ride. Well, actually it was a bit rough because we stuffed the tubeless
seat with grass and leaves to provide some padding. It was still reasonably
soft though.

How do you manage to fit a Coker tube into a saddle?
