Well, I’ve got the splined qu-ax 24" and it’s awesome!
The only thing, you might want to change the pedals and the saddle. The stock pedals are shit, I’m not sure about the saddle, though it maybe the slim version on trials, I’m not sure. If I were you, I’d get this. The price is the same, but the improvements are vast.
I cant get that one because its in Europe and the P+H is like $150 to get it over to Australia. Ive heard nothing but good news from the qu ax so im pretty sure ill be happy with it. If you dont no what it is its the one here http://www.unicycle.au.com/View.php?action=ProductDetail&Code=UQX20T
Oh, right. I thought you were gonna order from UDC UK for some reason.
Anyway, ask your dealer if they can change the pedals and the saddle. You’re gonna have to do it sooner or later. It’s the only two parts of the uni that I don’t like, the rest is brilliant.
The saddle is too big and heavy for SIF. You want a KH street or something like that, if you’re thinking of trials, street or freestyle(and if you’re not, this uni is not for you). The pedals are crappy, heavy aluminium pedals with pins that are molded in the frame. They aren’t too grippy to begin with and after about a week of use the pins rub off and you’re left with heavy metal non-grippy pedals. Better change now.
The seat is one of the thicker styled Kh seats, which are comfy for me, but aren’t too great for SIF, cause your hand has to grasp over such a large area of foam.
For the seat, you can take off the cover, cut the foam, and re-staple it back together. I did this and it doest take to long and works pretty well, as long as you dont pull your cover on too tight, or else it will rip.
The pedals on it aren’t to great like Ivan said. Surprisingly slippery for metal pedals, and were changed to a better set within a few weeks of ridding.
This is all for the Qu-Ax trials. Those are the only two flaws on the uni.
well… its way cheap?
my dad works as a flight attendant, so the trip to germany for him is free, and he had plans to go to neurnberg (sp?) (which is really close to the shop) for sightseeing and stuff
also, its bout 50 dollars cheaper on MDC, AND no postage
sounds like a pretty sweet deal to me!
anyway, back onto topic, i think the MDC edition is a good step forward (and for the same price! yes!) because, as jerrick mentioned, the seat is a lower profile, and good for SIF
I’ve just bought this uni - had it for just over a week.
The seat is nice and comfy, but not good for SIF. I upgraded to a KH street saddle (it only cost me about 5 pounds to trade it in:) ) - Very very nice for trials/SIF, but not as comfy as the original seat.
The pedals are rubbish. Slippery (almost dangerous when wet!), pins are not sharp and are not replaceable. I’ve just put some Qu-ax magnesium pedals on it. Unfortunately, I’ve messed up my back somehow, and can barely walk - The test ride will have to wait.
Otherwise, it’s a suberb uni. Change the pedals asap, consider changing the seat if you ride SIF, and then enjoy riding! i’m very happy with my purchase and upgrades.
i have that uni and left it stock. i like it but the pedals are a bit slick, i just havent had the money to upgrade. i think the seat is fine. overall its an awesome uni.
I have this uni and I really like it. It is super strong. I have done many 4+ foot drops on it, with really crappy rollouts and it shows absolutely no signs of damage to the uni.
The pedals are really heavy and the pins don’t come out. They aren’t very grippy at all. I never do pedals grabs, and I have only done a few grinds so the pins in mine aren’t really worn out, but they still give no grip. I am trying to find some hoffman solemates but I haven’t had much luck yet.
As for the seat, I don’t really have a problem with it. I don’t do very much in the way of trials, and when I do its just SI. The seat is kinda thick but I don’t mind it.
So other then the pedals, my only other complaint is the nubs on the cranks. I cut my ankles open all the time on them. It has been bothering me so much that I am thinking about buying KH moment cranks and a hub.
yeh i think i might order some new pedals and a KH gel seat when i order it so i dont have to get them later on. Ill be doing heaps of trials and using the pedals quiet a bit so i think ill get it while im odering it.
