Pros and Cons of a brake on a trials uni

I am thinkin of getting a brake installed on my trials unicycle. I know that this will make it heavier, but what are some other pros and cons of having this?

There was a thread on this quite some time ago, I think the genreal consensus is that it can be useful for:
hopping across bars
landing on sloped surfaces
mounting to ride along rails

However the difficulty of both holding the saddle for hopping and pulling the brake means that even in these situations it is not entirely useful.

See if you can find it with the search function, it got quite indepth.

why would you need a brake for trials? it will just mess you up, just go without one.

Pros: Easiernnie mounts, no kickouts, stickier landings.

Cons: Brake my aget in the way, adds weight, gets in the way for SIF, if you start depending on the brake for control you will lose your natural control

I just dont think that a brake would do you any real good on a Trials.

I think it could help for natural trials quite a bit, like being able to hop up steeply sloped surfaces ect.

i think theres no point useing one… there are no real big benifits…you might beable to mount easyier but you will most likey get really dependant on it…or only use it a little bit beacuse it gets in might get it the way for sif

why buy a brake when you can do the exact same thing with stronger leg muscles…

If you need a brake to prevent kickouts, your landings are sloppy and the brake will only prevent you from learning precise landings. Ditto for hopping on sloped surfaces. Precise moves make trials riding easier.

If you need a brake for mounting, you probably haven’t developed your riding skills enough, and you’ll become dependent on the brake.

In short, a brake will hold you back more than it will help you.

you got it in one! brakes are only usefull when RIDING down really steep hills, and for slow long decents where your legs would effectively die whilst trying to backpedal… ie, brake on trials == waste of time and money

If they were cheaper maybe, but it would be way too expesive for Maguras on a trials cycle.

I think ti could be useful for natural trials though. there are soem objects I’ve tried to forward hop up and they were so steep I didn’t have enough leg power to get up. I think there not worth getitng though becuase of the price. if they were $40 I might get some.

I wouldnt put one on even if i got it for free…

um, why?
edit: if you get one for free wil you give it to me then?
