Project ETH Zürich: Robot Unicycle

An interesting project by ETH Zurich, in which we are involved as a sponsor (sponsoring materials).

I love to see, that they put a video of @muni_ben on their start page. But as he, as a professor, is one of the supervisors of this project …

What a wonderful new world, where not only is AI taking over our jobs, but robots are also taking over our hobbies.

I wonder if he is the only one of the team who can actually ride a unicycle.

At least, he’s the only one with a unicycle on all of the photos. But since they have a cheap 20" in their room, I’m guessing they might give it a try.

He has more than enough unicycle riding skills for an entire team!

Also: a good move from @www.einradshop.ch to sponsor the material :+1:

I was asked if I would sponsor some of the parts needed for the project. I thought: Why not? Firstly, it’s an interesting idea, and secondly, it would be good publicity for my business to be featured on an ETH page. A win-win situation.

This definitely is interesting. Maybe they could make the robot be able to coach learning…

That robot looks oddly familiar to me… :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Right before reading your message, I was thinking about a parallel with the famous proverb “when Jeff Bezos enters a pub, every single customer is billionaire on average”. A similar thing happens with @muni_ben: “When Ben Soja enters a room, every single person in this room is a unicyclist on average”

This project is coming along great! The student team is incredibly motivated. We’ve had some good discussions, like deconstructing how unicyclists make turns so that they can adapt those physics to the robot. Can’t wait to see the final results at the end of the term!
