Agreed on freemounting
Agreeing with the other guys here. I just recently learned to ride decent, and learning to freemount should probably come after you’re comfy and consistently riding 50-100 feet.
I myself got the freemount a bit earlier than I could do that and found that I couldn’t go very far though I could mount and get going alright.
Excited for you two that you got unicycles! I’m sure you’ll have tons of fun!
Edit: Gonna add a few links to journals (mine shamelessly included) that I’ve found immensely helpful in learning, and also very encouraging.
Well, 300+ posts into this forum, and last night, I finally got my first unicycle. I’ve decided to keep a day-to-day journal for the days that I do anything unicycle-related, just to share a little of my experiences as a raw beginner to the sport. I think this might end up helping out other new unicyclists.
My first day with my unicycle was last night, but I didn’t do any actual riding. I ordered a Torker CX 24" from UDC, and put the kit together. I still haven’t gotten around to pumping up the…
Following the idea of ‘dudewithasock’ from 5 years ago, I am going to keep a journal of my experience learning to ride. Thanks for the great idea! Also, thanks to ‘steakfarm’ who is also new to this community for the recent post that got me thinking, and to ‘scott ttocs’ who added the link to the journal from ‘dudewithasock’.
First, a little history and some key learnings so far;
I am 46, but this is not my first time to try to learn. I have actually tried several times here and there over …
Hi,
I am 57 tomorrow and started my unicycle challenge about 4 months ago. I have conquered the riding part. The biggest challenge is endurance, both muscular and cardiovascular (I run out of breath). I started on a 20" Torker LX. After mastering the riding part, I decided a bigger wheel might be the answer to getting me further down the street with less exhaustion. A 24" wheel did improve my distance, but only a little. After about a minute or two (I’m guessing), I am totally exhausted. My mus…
Hi all! I’ve been watching videos, looking at stuff from your posts here (I don’t even know how I got onto the idea of unicycling, but I’m really excited!) I have no idea how to ride a unicycle.
I just ordered the Nimbus II 24" in red from UDC. http://www.unicycle.com/unicycles/nimbus-ii-24-inch-unicycle-red.html/
It should be here sometime this week. I’m only 5’7 but I want to ride it to college classes and stuff so since my furthest class is 1.5 miles away, I thought it might be a good idea …
The most important thing is to just keep at it. You’ll get it, it’s just a matter of time =)
