A friend saw a guy on Ripley’s Believe it or Not last night who does a
wheelie on a bike at 80mph speeds. He apparently reaches these speeds by
“drafting” a van. He was apparently so close to the van the his front wheel
was practically touch the van. Sounds like sheer lunacy. Wish I had seen it.
Now don’t any body get any ideas

Kona rider Bobby Root, last week set the first world high speed wheelie
record.
Whilst drafting a van he pedalled his way to 86.1mph before lofting his front
wheel for 35 yards.
The record was confirmed by the use of ‘onboard’ cameras and angle measuring
sensors.
Not content with his high speed record, Booby went on to set the benchmark
for high speed nose wheelie at 56,4mph!
Followed by film crews in helipcopters the record feat is to be featured in a
Guiness Book Of Records Fox special to be shown in the states in 3 months
time.
We are working on getting some pictures before then.
Bobby Root does a number of 65mph Standup wheelies without pedalling in a video called “New World Disorder” for about as long as he likes. In “Fat Tyre Fury” he does a number of rolling stoppies on a Tandem with a blow-up doll on the back. These are done at speed down the hills on the city streets on San Francisco.
Incidentally, Kris Holm features in both of these movies, hence why i own them both, and “one tired guy” as well!!!
You can see it! Bobby Root rides a long wheelie at 65 or 70mph and a scary
looking front-wheelie at over 50mph on New World Disorder I. Sure it sounds
crazy, but just like anything else, he built up his skills over time,
starting slow and gradually increasing the insanity meter.
