This year was the third annual Power of Four mtb race. I entered last year, and was crazy enough to try it again this year. It is long and arduous.
This unique mountain bike race combines the four ski areas of Aspen/Snowmass (Snowmass, Buttermilk, Aspen Highlands and Aspen Mountain) into one amazing mountain bike race. The diversity of the terrain and tackling the four distinct mountains has placed this race in a category all its own. With 9,000’ vertical gain and drop over 36 miles on top-rated single track, demanding ascents and coverage on each of the four mountains this race will challenge even the fittest riders. Challenge me it did; for 6.5 hrs. I made it to the bottom of the Congo trail, which is at the bottom of Aspen Highlands- the third ski area in the race. So for me it was the Power of Three, 12,000’ of ascending and descending in 23 miles, with the high point at just over 11,000’. I used both my gears on my unicycle, 29er and walking. The scenery as you can imagine was absolutely stunning the whole time, it kept me inspired often. Awesome for sure, and nearing Epic.
Unbelievable. And definitely looks Epic!
Aspenmike said epic. I was going to post in that other thread about how epic will mean different things to different people. For me, an aspenmike warmup ride would probably be relatively epic…
Gorgeous pictures, as always!
That’s a signature worthy quote and gave me a big belly laugh:)
