Is it me or is Mike riding a unicycle with an oval wheel?
They are called “elipticals” and were popular for a few years in the '90s. I understand that they give you a better power stroke for climbing hills, but I have never used one.

The reason why nobody uses them anymore is that, after your powerful uphill, you get bounced right off your seat on the downhill! 
I think mike’s wheel is the subject of a very wide angle lens. Mine (which I use for Trials photos) distorts quite a bit around the corners.
Beautiful shot! Mike is a fixture on those Colorado high passes, and deserves to be seen!
