I have access to some decent video from NAUCC and UNICON. I wonder if it is
appropriate for me to post it? Specifically, I’m wondering if there are any
copyright issues or if I would offend any of the participants/competitors
that are featured in the videos. The video, for the most part, was shot by
Guy Hansen and I’ve digitized it in VCD compliant MPEG. I may try to
recapture in DiVX format so that the quality will be better but before I
spend the time to redo it in DiVX I’d like some input about the “ethical”
implications (if any).
I don’t think there are any legal issues unless you start charging for views. Everybody who signed the release on their registration forms agreed to be photographed and videotaped.
They are being uploaded right now (and I am downloading the ones that are already uploaded:)). I estimate about 6 hours left for all 1.3 GB to be uploaded. Of course it’ll take longer than that for it to be linked to so that everyone can download it.
>1.3GB!! <franticly clicking,deleting and making room>

Burn a CD-R or two is the answer to that.
>667,the neighbor of the beast…
…but on the opposite side of the street then I guess.
I’m sorry to report that due to ignorance on my part the 1.3 gig is
unnecessarily large. When I captured the video I neglected to pay close
attention to the audio compression settings and so the audio got encoded as
PCM 16bit 44KHz. Gilby may be making some changes to reduce the size. I’m
still tinkering with the capture options in search of a good compromise
between size/quality and my machines ability to not drop frames.
As I find the time I may recapture the videos with (what I hope will be)
better overall settings.
Sorry for the delays. Hopefully, for the truly impatient (but not the
bandwidth impaired), there will be some videos soon. I’m actually surprised
that someone didn’t beat me to this already.
For those that are patient I may have better quality, smaller files within
the next week or so.
I didn’t have time to change the audio in the files, but I made them available for those that just can’t wait. You can get them at ftp://ftp.unicyclist.com/Unicon11/
The videos have all been converted to have the compressed audio now which means that it is a lot smaller and an easier download. It’s now only about 550 MB total! So head over and pick them up at ftp://ftp.unicyclist.com/Unicon11/
I want to thank you for putting those up. I snagged them last night and they
are quite nice. I recorded some myself, but was running out of tape, etc and
didn’t get all that I wanted.
Sharing unicycling videos, now that’s a good use for the internet.
