I will start with my one and only: Armin Van Buuren!!!
I dunno what the song is called, but it always ends with “Hey Jason shut off your music!”
My riding buddies hate music… boo hoo.
Man, how can you choose just one?
I listen to a lot of Eminem mixed in with ELO, Adler, Slash ft. Miles Kennedy, The Cars, Phil Collins, and Genesis, to name a few. Lately, I listen to a lot more rap than usual.
But Guns n’ Roses will always be the greatest band ever, even if I don’t listen to them when I ride…
I only listen to music on long 36er rides. Mostly Chopin, Scriabin, Satie, Debussy and other timeless classical. Never listen to music for MUni. The natural “rock & roll” of the trail is all I need for that!
Green Day, Avenged Sevenfold, Allman brothers, AC/DC (Bon Scott on vocals only), for long rides I enjoy Pink Floyds “The Wall”. My wife and I recently took the kids to see Billy Idol, so he gets some play on my cross town commute. The old guy put on a solid rock n roll show, my 17 and 20 year old were impressed. Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Soundgarden. Damn, can’t wait to get back on the uni. been off since around Thanksgiving with a pretty bad knee injury after an awkward UPD on my 36er. Finally able to ride my 26 muni a little. Cranking the iPod as I float along on my 36er is the best drug for mental health I know of. Be safe guys.
I sing to myself while I ride. I’m largely deaf in my right ear and I prefer to be able to hear traffic so I don’t use headphones or ear buds.
Lately I’ve been singing Back in the USSR a lot.
The Ukraine girls really knock me out,
they leave the west behind.
And Moscow girls make me sing and shout,
And Georgia’s always on my mi-mi-mi-mi-mi-mi-mi-mi-miiiiind…
Incredibly it is only recently that I made the Ray Charles connection. It was a forehead slapping moment.
TMI?
I usually listen to podcasts. My rotation right now is a few gaming podcasts, some running & ultra-running ones, and a screenwriting one (just for kicks).
Mainly this type of thing.
I can listen to music at home or in the car. Why go out on the uni to get away from it all and take part of “it all” with you? Apart from that, on country roads, I like to hear approaching vehicles.
