Soda. Pennsylvania, US.
NY, NY. Soda.
Raphael Lasar
Matawan, NJ
Soda in Reno, NV. Soda in Kailua, HI(Oahu). Pop in Portland OR. Soda in SLC UT. Coke in TX(all sodas are called a coke). And I am told by my cousins that its a southern thing to call it coke instead of Soda or Pop.
So it must be Western Americans, and Midwesterners, that call it Soda but the Northern states on the west call it pop, and the easterners call it soda, and the South calls it coke so therefore the Canuks must call it… Codap??? or maybe Sopoke, or maybe Podake??? Who knows???
The Great Pop vs. Soda Controversy
I usually call it pop (Oregon and Washington).
Half the people in Hawaii wouldn’t know what you were talking about if you said pop. Soda all the way!
I just got back from the SE US, it’s all Coke there, even if you’re drinking root beer.
I grew up with pop but always ask for a soda just to mess up the locals.

Atlanta, GA
When I’m out of state I’ll usually call it soda pop to avoid potential confusion. That way I don’t have to figure out if I’m in a soda state or a pop state.
My local Safeway grocery store has the pop aisle labeled “soft drinks”.
NY, upstate (just east of the division line apparently). Soda.
In Boston, it’s called tonic. “Let’s go get a tonic” means let’s hit the soft drink machine.
