Makes sense to manufacture 1 type of frame with a brake mount rather than 2 with and without.
Fortunately @ManiusTerentiusPullus you’ve got a pretty good upgrade path especially if you want to learn to build wheels in the future. The brake mount is on the correct side for internal disc and 29" frames should take everything smaller than them within reason (not fat tyres).
Yes, it is. Or with 2 brake Systems, one for Disk brake and one for the rim brake but the Rim Brake is dead for many people who ride. For me not, for me it is the best brake System for the Muni.
You have a Steel frame, the quality frames are in Aluminium but there cost over 100 Euro more. I would prefer: other screws at the bearing clamp, screws with a alen key and not flat. And other Pedals. Then it is fine for the next years.
I believe weight is the main one but there is also a difference with the ride feel. For bikes steel is considered less “stiff” than alu making for a more comfortable ride. While I can’t really blind test it, i think that difference also applies with unicycles. Personally I think I feel the difference and I wouldn’t want to put my 700c (100psi tyre) in my alu Oracle frame and take it on the road - too much stiffness is a thing. Meanwhile the cheaper steel 29" frame works beautifully with the wheel.
Except the better bearing housings on some brands (for example KH), i’m not sure if upgrading to an alu frame is really worth it unless you want to be competitive or fit a Schlumpf. If you’re just chilling out riding it’s static mass and the weight difference is less than a water bottle (or eating lunch).
I also start to ride the Muni with a Steel Frame from Qu-AX. It was good. 2 Years after riding this, I saw a offer in 2018… KH Frame in Raw for 50 Euro. Normaly you pay for this frame 175 Euro.
Yeah it’s 90F here (32C) and very humid. I sometimes ride on a tennis court, which is like a convection oven. I’m usually soaking wet when I get home. I’m trying to get better at muni so I can take my machine out into the forest where it is nicer, riding over bumps is still challenging for me.
Well… I thought these days were long gone, so just had to commemorate this epic one wheel adventure!
In its heyday Tasmania’s North-South Track was the longest point to point MTB singletrack in Australia. It’s still very much a beautiful trail traversing the face of Mt Wellington. I’ve ridden it many times on an MTB, but first time riding it on a uni. Finished it off by riding back into the city, completely crushed!
The result may be the same, but the way to get there is very different. My vote goes for muni in the forest. @clyde, as everything unicycle it’s mostly about keeping on practising.
We recently had one of the most important heat waves ever registered here in Switzerland. 12 days above 30°C, like in 2003 which is widely known as “Hitzesommer” / summer of heat. The difference is that this time the heat happened in june whereas 23 years ago it was in august, which is much more common.
Today for the first time in many years, I wanted to go off-roading again. I remembered a nice round of 10km, at least I thought I did because I missed a turn and before I knew it I did 12km in the wrong direction. In the end it was 23 km with for sure a lot of municycling. I didn’t UPD , but one time I missed the pedal at a free-mount, where I only just could run out of it, coz I was propelled towards a fresh cow pad on the road and didn’t the a faceplant would be much fun into that. Now I’m drained of all energy
