Going for a ride after more than a year of abstinence

No more muscles, no more breath, a painful reminder of what no exercise and increasing age does

I agree with the “no exercise” part but not with the “increased age” part. I put hundreds of miles a year on my uni and at 75 years old I can say I am more fit and able to ride then at any time in my life. No matter what age, you have to use it or lose it.

No, no, let me believe I’m not completely responsible for my mediocre physical condition :sob:

well Jim: yes and no… I am just slightly older than you but age seems to have an influence (and the name of it is “Parkinson” :rage:)

I agree, at some time age related issues will surely come up but I believe too many times people jump the gun.

Man, that sucks. I am sorry for your loss. Just know he died doing what he loves.

Him: You’re always pushing me around - I’m not into this fluffy stuff
Her: Well I thought you would be a strong hub-by, but you’re so cotterless
Him: You’re so cranky it wheel-y annoys me
Her: The way you spoke was just so cold
Him: It’s snow good, I’m tyre-ed of this, I think we should split up
Her: I don’t care - I’ll find another hub-by whose not so spline-less and is better p-laced
Him: I don’t care either, I always thought you were too short, and I’m sick of sharing you with that pedal
Both: That’s it then - let’s separate!

(Both: Why did the human just fall over?)

I finally captured a selfie with the 36er…

Logged almost 11 miles yesterday, after a month of non-riding.

If you ride it that infrequently, you should sell it to me :smirk:. The frame alone will do, I‘ve got a wheel from my Oracle.

 I don’t normally ride it that infrequently. I have been recovering from two cases of “not Covid” that felt as bad or worse than Covid. I haven’t ridden any unicycle much in the last six weeks, at all.

Then, a friend of mine coordinated a group ride for this weekend. I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to complete the 11 mile route.

I didn’t break any speed records, though.

Yep. Been there done that. Was a bother getting a new axle…

Somehow, I can’t imagine a minor issue like this stopping you from riding this unicycle. Even in winter.

I can only do one foot with my right foot unfortunately. Although this might be just what i need to finally learn it left footed as well.

That sucks. Glad to read that you’re back on the uni, even if it means you won’t sell me that nice frame…

Absolutely. Chances of that pedal hitting your calf (or shin) are about zero.

Latest ride

As our middle child was away on a skiing trip with the ungdomskole last week, the rest of the family decided to take a mini vacation to Malmö in Sweden.

I strapped the uni on the bike rack and off we went.

As I am the only uni-rider in the family, I went riding early before the kids woke up. This also ment riding in the rush-hour before sunrise.

Riding in down town Malmö in the rush-hour was intense. Not because of the car traffic. It moves at max. 40 km/h - when it moves… and even busses yield for cyclists. It happened to me twice.

The many lanes for cyclists - often bi-directional - were close to max capacity just before 8:00, but the, mostly, two or three wheeled traffic flowed nicely even at different tempos, and few cyclists took any notice of the sole one wheeled cycle.

There is a lot of art and old nice architecture and also some nice examples of more modern architecture - turning torso being the most prominent example.

Thursday morning I was stopped by a pedestrian in Kungsparken. It turned out that he too was a uni-cyclist. He told me he had unicycled professionally and asked if I knew several persons, but I did not.

Surprised over meeting a fellow unicyclist but also bummed that I did not know any of the presumably prominent Swedish and Danish riders of the unicycle community, I completely failed to ask for his name or his unicycle story.

I hope he is subscribed to this forum!

I might return in a warmer season. Malmö is definitely a town worth visiting- also for unicyclists.
