To tell the truth most of the books out there pretty much suck.
The bast way to learn IMHO is to read the articles here
http://www.devshed.com/Server_Side/PHP/ and use/read the online manual
(with user comments). webmonkey had a few good articles also.
but if you want a book The PHP Developer’s Cookbook (by Sams) looks pretty
good (it has an O’Reilly feel to it)
You might also want a mySQL book. I have O’Reilly’s mySQL & mSQL… it’s ok
but really not that great.
