Phi

Im sure there’s many people who know about it but i decided to make a thread about it. For those who don’t know about it Phi is a number/equation weird thingy that shows up alot in the universe, the number if 1.6180… and get these cool facts:

the width of a credit card multiplyed by Phi = almost the exact length of it

in bee hives there are almost always 1.61 times as many female bees than male

the eight of the to half of the CN tower multiplyed be Phi = the height of the bottom half,

check out this cool website www.goldennumber.net it blows your mind!!!

OH, its the Golden Ratio, enit? cool…I knew about 1.618, but I didn’t know it was called Phi.
neat!!

That number can be found all over the place. If you have read the DaVinci Code, there is a big part in there about where it comes up alot in specifically DaVinci’s art.

Rather than jack the graffiti thread, I thought I’d move over here.

Is beauty strictly arbitrary? What about the Golden Ratio? Is it really tied to beauty, or is it just another example of people finding order where there is none?

Sorry what?

Alot of the examples of the golden ratio are implemented by humans, i.e the ratio of the dimensions of A scale paper, the proportions of string instruments and therfore not so impressive. My favourite is the human finger, the ratio of the first bone to second bone, and second bone to finger tip are both approx. the golden ratio.

I think he meant: “The height of the top half of the CN tower multiplyed by Phi = the height of the bottom half.”

Though I’m not sure what the CN tower is.

It’s the tallest freestanding structure in the world, located in Toronto Ontario Canada.

yea, the man-made ones aren’t very impressive-just means that the golden ratio appeals to people…
