Petition Against Crappy Videos

It has come to my attention that certain people waste my computer’s memory and my DL time with absolute CRAP instead of unicycling. I vote you either warn that the video is 95% Stupidity and 5% riding with saddle out in front- no hands, or don’t post it at all. DAMN YOU ARE ANNOYING ME!!! I won’t mention any names, so you are secret safe with me Tyler.

Just reply with “THESE VIDEOS SUCK” and that will decide weather or not there should be an advisory.

Petion?

am i supossed to sign somthing?

Ill admit, my videos are pretty cruddy, but snow sucks, and I plan on puttinf off on video making for a while until my muni comes, in which case you will see alot more riding, and Muni, which I don’t suck at, at all…

bad move, making this thread.

hey cat boy I dont think he was talking about you

Bad move replying to this thread with the phrase “bad move”

Sorry, this reply was inspired by the lightbulb thread,

I LIKED the lightbulb thread! I thought it was funny!

I happen to like all the videos that have been posted. Even Catboy’s. The more videos posted the better.

I think that if we all just conserve and cobime 2 videos into one, then only the good stuff will get in and people wont have to add filler, like tyler cox’s close-up talking/lip syncing(satan face!!!) or Total uni’s horribly spelled titles, or my semi-repetitive riding.

Althouh I feel I am the least of the offenders, I will try to make vids less repetitive, or actually put more than 5 minutes of editing into things like Pink and White…:stuck_out_tongue:

More unicycling videos the better. It’s great to see a fellow unicyclist out riding.

i agree
i do think that it might not be out of line to give a brief back-of-a-video-box style description of the video so potential viewers can decide if they want to download it or not
simply mentioning if it’s straight Uni-Porn (oodles of action, zero storyline), or some kind of strange, dark narrative told thru the revolutions of a uni-wheel should give potential downloaders an idea if it’s their thing

maybe a Gallery of Uni-Video Reviews might not be a bad idea?

I have cable modem. I don’t care about download time because it’s minimal.

I watch videos for three reasons.

1 - to see people ride (whatever their skill level)
2 - to be entertained
3 - to get to know my fellow unicyclists

As such, I don’t mind if it has non-unicycling moments. Sometimes a video follows all the “rules” – and I don’t find myself entertained. As more and more people get better and better at riding, and as all these people start making videos, good riding will become a commodity. Of course, there will always be the greats. But there are so many highly-skilled riders making videos that I’m becoming numb to five-foot drops and stuff like that. I want to be entertained. On the other hand, as I learn a new skill, I want as much video as I can get of someone performing the skill (especially if they are just learning it on the video). And I will never tire of Andrew Carter’s amazing rail riding.

I expected something unusual from Tyler. The garage door opening and closing was fun and creative. It was like a video special effect – but done with a garage door instead of video editing software. Very funny! And his “bonus” segment – the non-riding part – is at the end. Easy to skip the next time. But it helps answer the question, “Who is the person behind the forum name ‘TylerCox’. Who is Tyler?”

Kris Holm did it too. He had lots of non-unicycling moments in Into the Thunder Dragon. A few people complained about that too. But I got to know Kris a bit more by seeing him do more than just ride.

And there will always be somebody who doesn’t like the music. I happen to love the music in total_uni’s video. It’s one of my favorite videos.

And I liked KlownLife’s videos too. They had an artistic and dramatized element that most people misunderstood.

Standard formula videos are fine. Pack it full of riding. Have a crashing section near the end. Set it to angry music. But there are plenty of people making formula videos. So, there is room to be different. Dare to be different. And if you download something you don’t like – oh, well. You lose! Don’t be mean to the person. Just download another. This is a time of abundance for unicyclists. We have the forums, tons of videos, great equipment. Hey, things could be worse. Spent time downloading something you don’t like? Get over it! (and don’t be rude)

Here! Here!

bad move #2 for you theoelind. No one likes someone who totally lame like that.

FYI, my comments were not entirely directed at my friend Theo, but to the many people who complain about people’s videos (you know who you are).

I assume Theo has dial-up? If so, I feel his pain! And as a result of his (badly presented) frustration, he has inspired a great idea that I hope becomes standard practice whenever posting a video. The “back of the box” description of the video – a brilliant idea from GILD. We should explore this idea. Write a few for existing videos (include a mention of the type of music, too). Try to get the idea to catch on.

I appologize for this thread. I do have dialup and it’s been running at 45.2kps lately. Last night when I started this tread I was cranky (my left crank is stripping) and I spent an hour and a half downloading Tyler’s new video which consisted of a load of crap and about 45 seconds of riding.

Again, I’m sorry. And I like Catboy’s videos.

Oh ok it all makes sence now. I remember the old days when I had dial up. I completelly understand now.

hey! I actually like Tyler’s Videos…I just leave them on repeat and it’s like having a fishbowl…but instead it’s a little unicycling kid!

Downloading videos on dialup would be frustrating. A lot of waiting for an unknown reward.

A while ago I burned a CD full of video clips and gave it to Jagur when I went to visit him. Jagur’s on dial-up too. Maybe we could start a chain letter of sorts where we mail a DVD full of downloaded video clips and send it around to all the desperate and frustrated folks on dial-up. Send the DVD to the first person on the list and they keep it for a week and copy the videos that they want to keep. Then they send it on to the next person. And so on.

I currently have 7.8 GB of unicycling video files on my HD that I’ve downloaded from the gallery and other sources. That’s enough to fill two DVDs.

You doubled me up. I’ve got a measely 4 GB. Darn.

Anyways I like the idea. I haven’t got a DVD burner though.
