Performing and Crowd Interaction

So I have a performance on Monday of next week.
I have been told it is a crowd of young children. No older than 5th grade(hopefully).
So I was wondering what some you know about interacting with the crowd. Like what should I say that the yound children mite find funny?
I know that some of you have done performance’s before, and since this is going to be a 30 minute show I need to know some things that take up the time.
I would also appreciate it if you could give me some ideas of things to do.
I will be mostly juggling 3 and 4 balls and 3 clubs. So if you know of anything I could do to make this a good performance for a whole half on hour then please tell me.
Thanks in Advance.

Bring candy and randomly throw out handfuls while performing.

It might also be funny to stage some comical UPD, pretend to be pain, and then get back on and land the same trick flawlessly.

Don’t regard the crowd as a big single entity. It is made up of small groups (families, bunches of friends, couples) and individuals. Work with the small groups and individuals.

The individuals divide loosely into three categories: friendly, disinterested, and hostile.

If you are performing to a crowd that has turned up to be entertained, most will be friendly.

Identify friendly faces in the crowd, talk to them, make eye contact. Get them on side and the rest of the crowd will follow. Don’t react badly to the hostile few (if any) - you will make a bad situation worse.

Don’t expect the crowd to be impressed with the technical difficulty of what you are doing. It is better to juggle 3 balls entertainingly than to juggle 7 well. Same principle applies to jumps, hops, and all manner of tricks.

I perform to crowds week in and week out, and have done for 20+ years.

i would love to perform

It’s hard work, and it’s deflating when it goes wrong, but when it works, it’s a great feeling.

Performing to a crowd of half a dozen can sometimes be harder but more rewarding than performing to a crowd of thousands.

But if you would love to perform, get out and join:
A Morris dance team
A juggling club
A unicycle display team
A rock band
A kazoo band
Local amateur dramatic society
Etc.

Do it now.

hmm i dont know really. that s kinda silly
