Pedals / Shoes

Hi,

Does anyone have any suggestions for a Brand and/or Type of replacement pedals for my Schwinn?

Also, how about any recommendations for Shoes (Brand and/or Type)?

Thanks in advance,
Bob

I’ll second that request.

On the older Schwinns, the pedal threads were narrow (or fat?), and are
harder to find upgraded pedals for. The newer Schwinns seem to have a
newer standard of pedal.

What’s the scoop?

What are you going to be doing on this Schwinn? I use Odyssey
Twisted PC pedals on my Freestyle. but a lot of people prefer
pedals that wont chew up you legs. a lot of people like pedals
like the Semcycle Deluxe pedals for freestyle use. The union
pedals will sometimes hold up and they are usually pretty cheap.
mostly it's whether you want grip and deathor smooth and friendly.

My schwinn (circa 1976) has crank arms which are threaded for 1/2" thread
pedals. I haves seen this size used in older, generally inexpeisnve bikes.
Now, most of the time, I see 9/16" threading.

To my experience, most bike stores carry both sized pedals – just make
sure you get the right size. If you bring one of your old pedals, you can
easily compare it at the store to figure out which size it is.

I just put a pair of Mosh BMX platform pedals on my Coker and am planning
to put another pair on my MUni. They’re huge and have little replaceable
flattop metal studs. Put the flame throwers down, I’ve already had a
couple of run ins with them and have not suffered any Mosh induced injury.

Incidentally, the threads are 9/16 thread. Very standard in the BMX world
where they still put steel cranks on relatively decent models

With foot firmly in mouth, I can report that the Schwinn cum Huffy is a
1/2 inch thread. I regret any wasted trips to the local unicycle store.
