Pedals fell out! Cranks stripped! Help?

So, a few weeks ago I bought a uni from guy off craigslist for $50. I took a chance. Specs were as follows:
KH Seat (older)
Bedford frame
Alex DX32 20" rim
KH 8-spline hub
KH 8-spline cranks
Luna tire (worn)

It’s been riding fine since I bought it, though obviously has seen a lot of use.

I lent it to someone to learn on (who isn’t particularly rough on it), and within an hour of his riding, both pedals fell off. The threads on the cranks where the pedals go in are both stripped.

How did this happen?

Is there a way to fix it?

Thanks.

Did the person you lent it to adjust the saddle? Did they turn the saddle right round and tighten it up facing backwards?
If you ride a unicycle with the saddle in the wrong way round that can happen. Also check that the right crank is on the right side of the uni and the same with the left.

Only way to fix it is buy new cranks im afraid, unless you re-tap the thread in the cranks. But the holes are probably too big to tap the original size thread in now their stripped, so the pedals wouldn’t fit anyway.

It sounds like the crank & pedal are on the wrong side and have come loose while riding.

You can helicoil cranks but it is often easier to just replace them.

a bike shop should be able to helicoil the crank arms, which should fix them fairly easily, but it won’t be super cheap, my shop would charge you $50 or so. but that’s probably worth it.

weld the pedals back in

do not take that advice.

take it to a good bike shop or a machinist, they’ll be able to tap new threads.
