So, after reading dozens of reviews, I decided to take the DMR vault pedals. The main reasons are that they are very sturdy and at the same time light (400g) and have perfect grip (11 pretty aggressive pins). They are very flat (17mm), but pretty wide (115x115mm), so plenty of room for the feet. Also, they look pretty awesome
I have not used them offroad yet, but went out to ride down some stairs - the pins didnât disappoint! My feet never slipped off. Compared to my PC pedals, I felt much more comfortable and safe.
A con could be that because they are wider the chance of hitting obstacles laterally might be higher - I will report back when I have some single trail experience with them.
I ride the Answer Rove FR on my Trials uni. So far my favorite pair for Trials but not the best for all around riding. I havenât measure anything on mine, but the platform is really big and it looks pretty much heavy duty too. The grip is amazing (okay I ride 5.10 shoes too). The only thing I would change are the pins, they are aluminum pins so they wear out pretty fast when doing pedal grabs on them.
After a few weeks of riding my new DMR Vault pedals on narrow rocky single trails, world cup DH tracks and wet rooty sections, I can truly say: I love them I had no problems with hitting obstacles due to the big platform, actually it saved me quite a few times when one foot got knocked off and I still could catch the outermost pins. The grip is perfect while still allowing some foot position adjustment.
Yesterday I lost my first pin because I forgot to tighten it - no big deal since the pedals came with spare ones. Today, I put loctite on all of the 44 pins to make sure that doesnât happen again in the near future.
Also, I might add that the pins can bite quite well (see pic). I already ordered some shin guards
In the end, I can really recommend them to everyone riding muni!
I, my shins, prefer plastic pedals. :). Yes I do wear shin guards but have still been caught a few times where your shoe meets the bottom of the shin guard. The pedal is fairly thin and wider than most for larger riders. The grip is really good as well. The pedal does not have a large concave either, which I prefer. The concave always makes me feel like I have something stuck on the bottom of my shoe. The best thing with these is the recessed end cap. I have ground through a few end caps on other plastic pedals. They also make the SP version that has metals studs if that is your thing.
These pedals are really wearing well so far and for under $20 these pedals are a steal.
I have not tried them in the wet yet so good to know! But, yea they do take a beating and still look pretty darn good. I wonder if the metal stud version would be better for the wet conditions? Have you tried those? I was thinking of putting them on my 36er which will see some wet conditions.
I got the deity compounds and I love them! you get the best of both worlds Cool looks and light weight. They donât spin free right out of the box but they loosen up and move freely pretty quickly. They are boss.
