Pedal pins

I was wondering if I could lower the pins on my pedals. And if it would be safe or mess anything up. Thanks

What are you trying to achieve?

What pedals? Plastic? Metal? What kind of riding do you do and why do you want to lower your pins, what are you hoping to gain?

In general you can lower pins without much issue as long as your are willing to accept a little less traction/grip. It’s easiest on plastic pedals since you can just sand them down, but on metal pedals you can try to find shorter pins or grind the ones you have down (harder). If you try to just lower metal pins they will work themselves loose and you will end up losing pins. I guess you could try loctite if you just want to lower them.

On my Odyssey Twisted PC Pedals I sanded them down to make them a little flatter. I still have pins but some are shorter now.

I have the opposite problem: a set of pedals that are virtually unusable because the pins are too short. Getting longer pins is not easy - they are made, but seldom in stock.

Personally, I wouldn’t shorten them. Wear leg armour.

However, the pins in most pedals have a standard 4mm metric thread, so you could experiment by buying some 4mm bolts and cutting them to the desired length. I did that and it helped.
