Saw this movie yesterday along with a billion other people. All I can say
is, wait for video… in fact, maybe skip it on video. Has anyone else
seen this piece of shit yet?

Wow, that surprises me, Jay. So much buzz comparing it to Titanic (for
budget) and Saving Private Ryan (for story). No such luck eh?

I’ve heard that the bombing scenes were phenominal, but the plot gets
really sappy and overbearing…thus ruining the movie. I think I’ll
probably see it in the theaters anyway, but I’ll keep the
expectations low.

I wasn’t expecting much, but it was even worse than I could have imagined.
That did surprise me.

Actually, the bombing was…okay. Good effects, etc., but the whole thing
didn’t have any geography to it (where is location x in relation to
locations y and z, etc.). It’s just a bunch of random, sloppy bombings.
Cool, yes, but could’ve been so much better.

shoot…I saw a couple old wart movies on AMC yesterday(In Harms Way and
Battle of the Bulge) BOB is much better…not much of a fan of John Wayne.
It would be nice if they could make a new war movie that didn’t rely on
special effects…the old ones are still good yet they’ve got horrible
special effects.
Uhh… Saving Private Ryan wasn’t reliant on special effects. Most of the
stuff they did was “traditional” non-computer effects. Same goes for The
Thin Red Line.

I guess I didn’t think of those two…but all the other ones I think of
use lots of them. Hunt for Red October was good because even the action
required little in the way of special effects. But look at movies like air
force one(not really wa war movie…but similar theme) or the most recent
Pearl Harbor. There were a couple others I was thinking of before I can’t
think of them now…I’ll see if I can scrounge them up.
Special Effects seem to be used as the solution for everyhting these days.
The good ones don’t, but far too many ok ones do.

Well, U-571 had a lot of special effects, but it used them only to tell
the story and not just for the “wow” factor. Anyway, yeah, I’m sick and
tired of special effects in general.
