painting rubiks cube question

i know some of you painted your cubes, and i’m planning on doing that tonight i was just wondering if you have to take it apart. is that just so paint dosen’t harden in the moving parts? also should i put clear nail polish on it to keep it from skratching? i need your advice 'cause mine looks like colourful garbage taped on a cube:(

you don’t need to take it apart…just do one side at a time. and also, in my opinion its best if you make sure you paint the right colors on the right sides…blue is opposite green, yellow is opposite white, and red is opposite orange. most people probably don’t care about that, but thats the ‘standard’ color orientation, so thats how I’d do it.
clear nail polish definitely helps, but it isn’t completely required…
also, if you want, you can get replacement stickers from www.cubesmith.com . its a wonderful site for caring for your cube.

If you want it to stay and look really clean, then I would suggest cleaning it until you can no longer tell that there was stickers on it, then i would prime it so that the paint actualy sticks on well, and finaly I would paint and apply your varnish.
