I would like to get into kayaking. I’ve done it before many times in summer classes/camps, and now I have roughly $350 to $400 to buy a kayak. What kind do you recommend? I am 5’ tall, 80 pounds, and plan to paddle the Puget Sound, lakes, and maybe even some calm rivers. I was looking at the Pelican Pursuit 100 DLX mainly; is it a good kayak? Thanks for any recommendations!
You sure do a lot of stuff.
Where does a ten year old get this kind of money to spend on Hobbies? Is your college education already financed?
HA, sorry if this offends you Tyler.
But I think he is rich, isn’t his dad like a lawyer?
well i am not a kayaker but a canoeist. I also paddle whitewater not much flatwater stuff. But from your description of what your going to be doing this should be fine for flatwater. It isnt really meant for anything other than flatwater. Im used to Class III-IV rivers and creeks not ponds and lakes lol.
Looks like a bathtub. Build your own wooden boat. Go to pygmyboats in Port townsend, buy a kit, have your dad help you. It’s a fantastic project that you will never forget and you will have a beautiful light weight wooden boat. Those plastic ones are heavy and handle poorly. they are slow, too.
I have built several boats (6) like those and they are a project that you could do with help. They are not that difficult… honestly.
Well if you really want something light and fast then get a glass boat. idk if there are many for flatwater but you could get a glass slalom boat, just be careful not to break it.
yeah what sort of kayaking you getting into? I’d say flat water by the looks of that boat? I do quite a bit of white water kayaking, playboating etc you should get into that, way more exciting haha
Ask if you got any questions.
What I’d do (did long ago) was to go to the local outfitters – the guys who actually do lots of trips with customers. Take (pay for) a kayaking class from them and tell them you are interested in trying different boats and want to know what’s what. Then do a few trips with the local club and borrow or rent a boat for each. By the time you are done you will know exactly what to get. Not only that, but you’ll have some kayaking friends to play with and you’ll already know how to do an Eskimo roll, how to install a spray skirt, how to adjust your braces, and a lot more stuff.
Yeah whitewater is so much more fun
