Outlook Express Inbox disaster

Help!
All the emails in my inbox have disappeared if they have been read! If I read one, shut down and reopen, it is gone…not in my deleted items folder, either. I just lost about a gazillion important email addresses and files!

You’re going to hate this question, but… do you have any backups?

Of course the problem with a program like Outlook Express is knowing what files to back up to protect your mail. I don’t use it myself, but used Outlook for many years. Everything for Outlook’s mail was in one big, fat file.

There may be some steps you can do to “uncorrupt” your mail file. Start with the Help and then try a google search on something like “Outlook Express troubleshooting.”

Good luck, and don’t forget to back up the rest of your stuff!
(he said while scrambling to update his own backups)

I don’t use outlook, but in some email programs there is an option to only view certain kinds of emails, such as unread, all, or things with certain flags.Look around and see if you can find an option like that.

Thanks

I have all my work emails sent to my work laptop, too. I am using that now. I also keep my personal mail on gmail, which is available on the web. So after some consideration, I realize that I do have all my emails backed up.

I will try to burn some CDs tonight of all my irreplacable sceincey stuff that is on that machine. I am pretty certain that I do have it backed up somewhere already. I also am having problems with my USB memory stick, AND my wireless router. I usually have NO problems at all with my hardware and software! I wonder if it’s all the humidity messing with things. I know it’s messing with me!

I found this online…

If you have lots of unread messages and wanted to separate them from read messages and examine them one by one, click View>>Current View and select Unread Messages: all previously read messages will disappear from message window, only unread messages will be available. To return back simply switch to “All Messages”.

I’ll try when I get back home.

Gilby hit the nail on the head. Thanks! Everything is a-okay.

Glad to hear it…Gilby is more than just the Mod of the forums…hes like the supreme internerd for all of our web related problems:D No offense Gilby.

Now go make a backup of your important files and store the backup files on DVD or CD.

Will do, JC!

Heh, when I first read that, I misunderstood it, and though you meant you were going to back up Just Conversation.

Everyone needs prodding or a reminder to do a backup. I’m lazy about backups too. It’s when you have a close call with losing a file (or a bunch of files) that you suddenly get the religion again.

Backups?

Those are the MUni riders that follow JC part way up a steep hill.
