Thanks but they only sell the standard QX frames. It seems that the QX disc frames are impossible to get without buying the whole muni
It’s a shame because right now these are the only frames with a tab for inboard disc…

That is annoying, have you tried contacting QX directly?
What’s a UCM?
Two links that worth 2000 words (there is 2 pics ):

Is installation possibly the issue? The side closer to the caliper should be fully tightened against the frame before tightening the other side - if you don’t do this than the D-brake will be seeing nearly twice the torque load.
If it can’t tighten up against the frame on that side then it may not be compatible with your frame.

Damn it! It is bent!
Oh well, I’m taking the disc off this uni anyway (to put onto a 29er with Spirits). Just out of interest, do you think I’ll be able to straighten the D’Brake out - it seems a bit of a waste to chuck it away if I buy another disc.
I was having issues with my Oregon (third frame by now) and the disk brake the other day. It started rubbing and squealing constantly. Fortunately I could fix it by readjusting the adaptor. But now I do wonder if my d-brake bent too. I’ll have to check.
Welded frame tabs.
Thats the future for new muni frames I hope.
The best way to check without removing the D’Brake is to stan the uni upright and look at it from the rear. Remove the caliper and have a look to see if the gap between the post adapter (bit between the caliper and D’Brake) and the rotor is equal at the top and bottom. If it’s not, you’ve bent your D’Brake inwards like me
+1
I contacted Qu-ax directly and they replied very quickly and friendly. Unfortunately, they have no plans to sell their disc frames separately, just the whole disc munis
stuck disc brake pad
its not an oracle
but my problem is similar emought to pop on the end of this thread.
was getting horrible squeeling and a whole uni vibration on my ride today.
my quick diagnosis is that a pad has stuck out.
I cut short my ride and came home.
t
took the caliper off and tried to push the pads back in with a screwdriver. they would go back, but not very far. barely enough to squeeze the caliper back onto the disc.
next i took the pads out, checked i hadn’t gouged them too badly with the screwdriver. ( i gave them a light sanding anyway)
and tried to push the pistons back with a tyre lever.
So this is where im stuck.
I have heard about using ‘brake cleaning products’ to remove gunk and get things moving, but I dont have any and done know where to get any.
on putting it all back, it … seems a bit better , but the outer pad still looks further out than it should be and the gap looks too small.
Im thinking next step is a trip to LBS
anyone have any other home fix suggestions
About the D’Brake:
I recently purchased a 29" Oracle frame which includes one D’brake AND a separate D’Brake (for another Uni):
The 2 D’Brakes ARE different!
It seems that the design has been changed, the spare one is much more beefier in the lower area.
I can’t post pics right now, but I will if needed.
Unicycle.com has modified them, assuming they know that they can bend, but I can’t find infos anywhere about this design change.
I personally have never bent a D’Brake, but if you did, contact Unicycle.com for a replacement with the newer ones
Thanks for the heads up. I’m going to UDC today (woohoo new uni!) so I’ll have a look. I don’t think they’ll replace it - I wont ask anyway - but whilst I’m there I might as well have a little look.
I haven’t had any issues with mine, but to me it looked like a fatigue failure waiting to happen - all the braking force passing through a sharp elbow with a hole drilled through it - I hope that got cleaned up too.
Mine sees such light duty that metal fatigue probably isn’t an issue, but it’s always bothered me.
All mine see heavy duty, I’ve had four, sold one, just built up a new one, never had a problem, they are all still straight, I carry a spare in my gear bag just in case.
I’d like to see the Oracles come with disc brake tabs welded to both legs of the frame, one for external disc (right) and one for the internal disc (left).
There’s nothing wrong with the D Brake, it serves it’s purpose and is great for adapting no disc brake unis, but for a dedicated uni that is sold with a disc and for high end unis where the addition of a disc brake is likely, it just makes sense.
